Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘you are what you eat?’. What this essentially means is that you need to nourish your body the right way to see benefits. Of course, fruits and veggies form a critical part of a healthy diet, but it’s important to remember that certain varieties are not so helpful in the summer season!

The season is marked by multiple ailments related to the stomach and skin, and this happens largely due to unhealthy diet patterns. There are some fruits and vegetables that cool the body down during the summer season, while there are others that can make your case worse. Therefore, it’s important to eat some fruits and vegetables in moderation.

Are you ready to find out?

1. Mangoes

The unique taste and richness in its flavour makes it one of the most-loved fruits the world over! But remember mangoes must be consumed in moderation! That’s because excess consumption can lead to skin infections, indigestion, and diarrhea. And since mango has natural sugar content, it can be harmful for diabetics too!

2. Eggplant

Eggplant belongs to the category of nightshade vegetables that usually contain solanine (a type of plant poison). This chemical can trigger inflammation and can affect those with symptoms of arthritis. Also, because of its spongy nature, eggplants can absorb all the flavour but also fat, calories, and sodium.

3. Green peas

While green peas are filled with nutrients, it is deficient in vitamin D and has low amounts of calcium. You require calcium in your body for muscles to work properly and for the heart and nerves. Peas can also lead to weight gain, and because of the high glycemic index, it can cause a surge in blood sugar levels.

4. Cherries

If you’re a fan of summer fruits, then cherries would definitely be a part of your list. Consuming large amounts of cherries can cause gastrointestinal problems, owing to its high dietary fibre content. Moreover, they do not contain many essential minerals and vitamins.

Oh, and if you eat bananas and do not maintain proper dental hygiene practices, you can end up with tooth decay. Eating bananas daily can trigger severe hunger, cravings, and blood sugar surges.

6. Corn

Corn is another veggie you must not eat, because it is high in calories and can lead to gas, diarrhea, and bloating. Also, corn contains phytic acid, which can reduce the absorption of minerals. Its starchy nature can also spike blood sugar levels.

7. Grapes

You might think grapes are filled with health benefits, and they do, but they also can harm you. That’s because they contain high sugar content, which can cause weight gain, allergies and several gut issues.

Broccoli’s side effects are not as serious, yet you need to be careful. The high fibre content in this veggie causes gas and bowel irritation. And if your skin is hypersensitive, you can also end up with allergic rashes. Try to consume it in moderation.

9. Lychee

Lychee is a widely available summer fruit, but did you know it contains toxins that can lead to low blood sugar levels? Plus, it can also cause allergic reactions, especially in people who can’t deal with birch.

10.  Potatoes

Potatoes are starchy vegetables that can cause major weight gain. That’s because they have a high glycemic index, and are high in calories, thereby increasing chances of getting diabetes, heart diseases or stroke.
