Can you really regain your virginity if you skip sex for a while? Ahem…. although it looks like that, this topic is totally debatable. But you still can’t deny the other things that happen inside of you, when you have or don’t have sex.
Being sex starved doesn’t just take a toll on your physical well-being, but also on your mental health. The simple reason behind this is the secretion of pleasure hormones like dopamine and oxytocin. These two happy hormones don’t just boost your mood, but they also keep stress at bay.
And that’s not all! A happy mind and body is the abode of well-oiled organs that keep you fit and fine. Plus, it also helps you strengthen the bond with your partners.
Abstinence can be due to numerous reasons but that doesn’t mean you can’t bounce back. But there are certain things you need to know before you dive into the game of love. What are they? Well, keep reading to find out.
That’s because you were out of practice, and it’s taking your vagina some time to get back in action. Well, jokes apart, this is pretty normal and happens to everyone who has had sex after a long period of time. So, how to get it right? Well, it’s a given that you need a double-shot of foreplay to make your vagina get back in action.
“Psychology also plays a role in secretion of hormones. Therefore foreplay is of utmost importance at this point in time,” says Dr Shilpa Agarwal, consultant gynecologist and obstetrics at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai.
Your vagina is usually not a dry terrain, but the kind of lubrication it needs during sexual intercourse can only be achieved when you are high. If you haven’t engaged in sex for long, it might be a little difficult for your vagina to get wet. But there is nothing to worry about, as once you are back in action, your glands will start secreting the lubes again, so that you can avoid painful sex.
“That is because your vagina isn’t used to it for a long time, and therefore the process is on hold. Due to lack of action, the blood flow or vascular circulation does not happen and dryness is seen. Use lubes to avoid abrasion in such a condition,” recommends Dr Agarwal.
If there’s vaginal dryness, then of course, painful sex will happen. You can also experience pain due to the pelvic contractions, due to lack of sex, for a long time.
What we can advise is doing some pelvic floor muscles exercises to loosen up your muscles a little.
“The anxiety of having sex after so long also plays a role in making it all the more painful,” says Dr Agarwal.
The area around your vagina has been unexplored and untouched for a really long time. And when suddenly there is an invasion, then there are high chances that the bacteria and fungus takes advantage of this. That’s why your vagina is at a very vulnerable position at this point in time.
“Although it is not that common, we can’t deny its possibility,” she says.
This usually happens when the pH balance of your vagina is off, and let us tell you that sex also helps in maintaining it. Not having sex for a while can very well impact the pH balance of your vagina, and when you make out next, it can make the penetration difficult due to various reasons like dryness, infections, etc. So, to avoid this you can take the help of lubes, and what we would advise is to take it slow, otherwise there are chances of your vagina getting hurt.
“You can also use dilators, in case your vagina is very narrow and penetration becomes a problem. But this is to be done only under the supervision of a doctor, as the size of the dilator matters a lot,” concludes Dr Agarwal.
We know you want to have a blast after that long sexual drought, but a little more care is what your vagina demands.
