If you’re as clumsy as I am, you can get a burn every time you cook. That’s right, burns are a common household injury that you get at least once in a lifetime. The ones that only affect the top layer of the skin and cause redness or mild pain are first-degree burns. While these can be easily treated, the more serious ones take time. Did you know that you can heal a burn at home too? Yes, it’s possible depending on the severity of the burn.

Understanding the types of burns

Before we understand how you can heal a burn at home, let’s know the type of burn that might occur, as explained by Dr Chanchal Sharma, Ayurveda expert and director of Asha Ayurveda:

1. First-degree burns: These affect the top layer of the skin and are characterised by redness and mild pain.
2. Second-degree burns: These penetrate deeper into the skin, causing blisters, swelling, and more intense pain.
3. Third-degree burns: These are severe and damage all the layers of the skin, often requiring immediate medical attention.

One of the most effective and natural ways to get rid of burns is Ayurveda remedies. This ancient practice offers many solutions for burns by promoting the recovery process of the skin. Ayurveda focuses on balancing the body’s energies and uses herbs, oils, and other natural ingredients to promote healing. While small burns can be covered by natural remedies, you need to seek medical attention to deal with burns covering a large area, advises the expert.
