A woman’s body undergoes several bodily changes when she is pregnant, and as disappointing as it may sound, it also impacts her sex drive. Only a handful might experience an increased libido—but most of all, the desire to get physical vanishes. There are several reasons for this, most common of which is a negative body image.

All set to find out what these reasons are? Well, we are waiting to tell you all. So without further ado, let’s get to the top four things that happen when you have sex during pregnancy.

1. Body insecurities can make you averse to sex

You could be an ordinary person or a celebrity, but it is pretty common to have body insecurities during pregnancy. Besides, your body also goes through several changes through all the trimesters. For some, the first trimester is the toughest, because morning sickness is a common occurrence. There are others who suffer from extreme fatigue in the first trimester.

When you hit the second and third trimester, you are more conscious about your body and don’t feel as sexy. And that doesn’t really translate to good sex. But having a conversation with your partner always helps, so make sure what’s going on in your head!

2. Your partner may also be unsure of sex

That’s what we told you right above: make sure you have a heart-to-heart conversation with your partner. That’s because even if he wants to initiate sex, he might be scared to do so! Plus, there’s always a fear of hurting the pregnant partner or the gestating baby. So, don’t think your partner has lost interest in sex; it could also be that this is what your partner has in mind!

3. Some women experience higher sex drives

Every person’s body is different and this is applicable to pregnant women as well! It is all a play of the hormones that decide how much interest they have in sex. Some may hate sex during pregnancy, while others could experience a rise in their libido. That’s because of increased genital blood flow and lubrication!

For some, sex is even better than usual during pregnancy. And as we all know, the act of lovemaking releases oxytocin, a hormone known to promote relaxation, trust, and comfort.

4. Think beyond vaginal sex

You might not want to indulge in penetrative sex, but how about caressing, holding, kissing your partner? These are great ways to connect with each other, when you’re pregnant. Vaginal intercouse might not feel like a great idea, especially in the third trimester. But foreplay is always a great way to get you in the mood for sex!
