Stress has become a part and parcel of our lives. It has made its way into the professional sphere as well exacerbated our personal struggles. And we all know it’s bound to happen — after all, there’s a LOT that we handle every day. You may think that it is this very reason that prevents you from being organised, but the truth is that even the simplest organisational habits can make a huge difference!
That’s exactly why we have some inputs from Preeta Ganguli, a therapist and wellness consultant, to help you be a better organiser. So, are you ready to find out?
“Take out some time and remove all the things that you don’t need. Scan your room, and get rid of everything that’s unwanted. It could be anything from a tiny bottle to big items,” says Ganguli. You will realise how doing this can really lift some weight off your shoulders. It will instantly reduce your stress levels, we promise!
We are attuned to say ‘yes’ to things, even if we don’t want to do them. And every time, we say NO, we go on a guilt trip and blame ourselves for being bad. Stop doing that, and wean off this habit slowly and steadily.
“Have too much on your plate at work? Say no to your boss, and let them know you can’t handle more. Know your limits. Are you very tired but don’t want to say no to that invitation? Let your friend know. You don’t have to overextend yourself all the time,” she adds.
We all have a long list of tasks to complete every single day! But how about we prioritise things, and then begin? Start off with the most important tasks, and move on to the others. Also, you don’t have to complete everything together. Take breaks and space it out.
“Do you remember when we were in school, we would pack our bags, lay out our uniform, and be ready for the next day the night before? Do the same, when it comes to work and other tasks. Pick out your clothes, prepare your breakfast (in case you like that), and remind yourself of the important tasks for the day. You will be much more centered,” says Ganguli.
You might be massively caught up, but take some time out for yourself. “Relax for a bit, sip on a hot cup of tea, or even get some sun. You could also unwind with a book at night or listen to your favourite music,” she concludes.
