Our lives are hard — we struggle to cope with professional and personal stressors, and without even realising, they can stay in our body. A lot of our stress comes from day-to-day activities, while in other cases, it can present itself as a manifestation of trauma. It’s always a good idea to seek professional help for your condition, but you could also use certain methods to relieve stress in your body. And one of the most effective remedies is shaking therapy.

In most cases, stress is marked by associated symptoms like irritability, anxiety, depression, headaches, a weak immune system, and increased risk of heart diseases. By practising shaking or neurogenic tremoring, you can manage stress in an effective manner. How does it work? Well, as the name says, by shaking your body to release tension. This technique helps to regulate the nervous system.

When you shake or vibrate your body, you release muscle tension, and calm the nervous system. In no time, your stress levels go down.

Here’s how shaking therapy works for stress management

The nervous system is responsible for carrying out several functions in our body. It regulates your blood pressure, body temperature, digestive function, heart rate, metabolism and sexual arousal. But when the body is stressed, your nervous system can’t function properly. For instance, we all know that extreme stress can turn on the flight or fight response, and that means your body is going to release large amounts of cortisol. More often than not, it takes a toll on your physical and mental health.

When you shake the body, the nervous system comes back to a neutral state, thereby avoiding any kind of damage. Shaking therapy can help manage emotional states, and control symptoms of anxiety, trauma or depression.

How can you do shaking therapy at home?

You can do it standing or sitting, whatever you are most comfortable with. Shake out particular parts of your body — it might look crazy, but do anything and everything that makes you feel better. You can also pay attention to your breathing, move your arms and shake the other parts. Notice how it makes you feel, and if there’s a change in emotions — before you began, to now. Once you complete a particular side, move on to the next. Repeat on each leg, hips and the body as a whole.

The last word

Shaking can help regulate the nervous system and calm the body, especially when it’s over-stressed. Although there needs to be more evidence regarding this method, it has worked for many. So, there’s really no harm in trying it out, ladies!
