Winter is the most beautiful time of the year. The shorter days and longer nights, cold air and low humidity, and the quiet weather are all the things people enjoy during winter. And not to miss the cuddles with pets, snuggles under the blanket and the warmth of a hot cup of tea, coffee or that lip-smacking hot chocolate!

So if you are a winter lover, chances are you will end up smiling by the time you’re done reading this piece. While a whole lot of people talk about the gloom that clouds their mind during this season, let us tell you about the things we absolutely love about the winter. Maybe you will agree!

Things about winter that we Indians love:

1. Gajar ka halwa

Is winter even winter if you’ve not had at least one bowl full of gajar ka halwa? An integral part of the Indian dessert family, it is prepared primarily in the winter because carrots are a winter vegetable. In fact, winter for most of us is synonymous with gajar ka halwa. And guess what, carrots are packed with several nutrients which are good for your digestion, eye health, and even immunity during winters. So enjoy it!

2. Snowfall

Snow is just so beautiful! If you don’t get snowfall where you live, you can go on a trip to enjoy it. It covers everything like a fluffy white blanket and you can actually do activities like skiing, throwing snowballs or the little joys like making a snowman! There’s something so stunning about that fresh snow. You will know it only when you’ve experienced it.

3. Festivities

Hello, it’s the wedding season! Wait, it’s also the season for Christmas, New Year and Lohri, and Valentine’s day. Winter is the perfect time to gather together with family and your loved ones, and what’s a life without it.

4. Chai

Hot tea and cold winter has a vibe. There’s nothing more comforting than a cup of piping hot tea on a chilly winter day. With cold winds blowing outside and the sun playing hide and seek, only a cup of tea brings the much needed warmth. Try to drink healthy versions of tea like lemon and pepper tea, ashwagandha tea, cinnamon and tulsi tea, and ginger and mint tea.

5. Warm clothes

Winter fashion offers so much more variety than summer. Comfortable scarves, big coats and jackets, boots, cute, fuzzy socks and slippers are everyone’s personal favourites to flaunt. Moreover, this season is the time to experiment with various textures to maximise your fashion quotient.

6. Don’t worry about the shaving

There is no such thing as doing it in summer or winter. Hair on the body will grow and does not know any season. The choice is yours to make as to when to shave. And during winter, you can avoid regular shaving – if you don’t mind the scruff – because you wear full-sleeved clothing! Plus, ask all those who get waxed, they will tell you how the spiked levels of pain make them say a louder ‘OUCH’.

7. Cuddling

Who doesn’t like cuddling? Everyone needs a good cuddle buddy when winter comes knocking. You can spend those weekend mornings close to your loved ones, getting warmth and giving some of it too!

8. Makki ki roti and sarson ka saag

One of the most famous delicacies from Punjab, sarson da saag is widely consumed and loved by people of all ages. And even if you don’t love it, you must give it a try as soon as winter settles in! Wondering why? Well, because mustard leaves can improve your metabolism and be a powerhouse of nutrients. So what are you waiting for? Go and enjoy.

9. Sunbath

Come winter, we all need to feel the warmth and health benefits of sunshine. It does not soothe only our body but our mind, heart, and soul too. In fact, there are many health benefits you can extract directly by soaking in the sun. But of course, don’t forget the sunscreen and protection against UV rays!

Smiling, aren’t you? Enjoy while the season lasts!
