Who does that? Well, it looks like many people have tried using a toothbrush down there, and FYI it’s not to pleasure themselves but to keep it clean. Shocked? So were we. Strangely, people use a toothbrush to clean their vagina, so that there’s no foul smell.
There’s no denying that our vagina is the most mysterious part of our body. There are limited conversations about it, which means there are a lot of unanswered questions in our head. That’s the fundamental reason why people choose to experiment with different things, and that just ends up causing trouble.
A lot of people think using a toothbrush to clean a vagina can enhance its smell, and keep infections at bay – just like what a loofah does. But ladies, the overall skin and biome of your vagina is quite different. You are going to end up committing a terrible mistake, if you do anything of this sort.
According to Dr Aruna Kalra, senior gynaecologist and obstetrician at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, there are no benefits attached to it. Instead, it can be really harmful for such a sensitive region.
Here’s what she has to say, “Vagina has an ecosystem of its own. One doesn’t need any external products to clean the vagina. It is naturally self-preserving and self-cleaning. So, there’s no point in using products like toothbrushes to artificially clean your private parts. It is strictly recommended NOT to use such products.”
Here are some side-effects of using a toothbrush for vaginal cleaning
-
Imbalance in the microflora
Products like these disturb the microfloral balance in the vagina. They are not good for your vaginal health, and cause harm to your private parts. -
It can cause infection
These may cause blisters, sores or warts in your genital area. Persistent vaginal itching can also be a result of using such products to clean your vagina. -
It can scratch the sensitive skin and cause irritation
The rough and sharp bristles of the toothbrush can cause rashes around the vaginal area. You could end up with irritation, and also scratch your skin. “Using a toothbrush down there can rupture the skin, which can further lead to bleeding and painful sex,” suggests Dr Kalra.
Also, watch:
Instead of using a toothbrush, this is what your vagina needs
- Warm water can be used to clean your vagina;
- Don’t use scented soaps that can be harsh on your skin;
- Gently clean the vaginal area using a soft washcloth or clean hands;
- Keep your vaginal area as dry as possible;
- Wear soft, breathable underwear, and change it regularly (that means daily);
- Always urinate after intercourse. Remember to wipe from front to back and not otherwise.
So ladies, stop trying anything and everything you see on social media, because you might end up doing more harm than good.
