1. Consuming excess junk foods
It is common to indulge in comfort foods in excess during this season. However, junk food will not only slow down your digestion but also lead to bloating and cause harm to your digestive health. In fact, the lack of essential nutrients in junk food can even lead to irritable bowel syndrome. Apart from junk foods, avoid processed foods as well.
Instead, eat cooked vegetables, whole grains, pulses, lentils, fresh fruits, and seeds. Also, stay away from spicy food as it can cause heartburn and stomach pain. Lastly, be aware of how much is on your plate as overeating is another cause for suffering digestive issues.
2. Not having enough water
With the drop in temperature, we tend to decrease our water intake. Drinking an adequate amount of water on a daily basis is essential to get rid of all the toxins in the body. In the absence of sufficient water, intestines make food more difficult to pass and can lead to constipation. So, try to have enough liquids to stay away from digestive problems during winter.

3. Carbonated drinks
As the cold weather sets in, swap out soda and other aerated beverages with coffee or fruit juice. The bubbles in soft drinks are notorious and can irritate the walls of your stomach leading to even more pain. In addition, these types of drinks can also take a toll on your teeth health.
The cool winter air can at times be stressful for our bodies and in particular the digestive system. It can cause cramping, bloating, inflammation, and a loss of appetite. So, work on de-stressing yourself with activities like yoga, meditation, or other exercises like walking. You can also engage in other activities of your choice to reduce stress like listening to music, cooking, photography, or even dancing.
5. Lack of sleep
A good night’s sleep acts as a medicine allowing our bodies to repair and restore themselves to their optimal state. While sleep deprivation can increase stress levels which is not good for gut health. Good sleep means better stress management, fewer unhealthy food cravings, and ultimately lesser digestive issues.
Besides all the above causes, keeping yourself warm also has a role to reduce abdominal pain associated with indigestion and stomach cramps. So make sure to wear adequate layers of clothing and keep extra blankets handy.
