Giving birth to a child is the most magical thing in the world. It is one of the most beautiful and important phases in a mother’s life. Even though it’s a great experience, creating a new life and giving birth is not an easy task. It’s not exactly a vacation because having your own baby requires you to be away from home for at least 24 hours (uncomplicated vaginal delivery) for 2 to 4 days (cesarean delivery), and occasionally longer.
The most basic items you will need to care for yourself during and after birth will be provided by your hospital. But it’s always better to carry your own essentials.
Health Shots got in touch with Dr Manju Gupta, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Motherhood Hospital, Noida, who listed 8 items that moms-to-be should pack in their hospital bag.
Dr Gupta says, “If you want your experience to be seamless and hassle-free, you should pack your luggage ahead of time. Here’s what your hospital or birthing facility should give, as well as what you should bring for yourself, the baby, and your spouse.”
Here are 8 things to pack in your hospital bag before you go in a for a delivery:
1. Baby diapers
Although hospitals provide the necessities like diapers, and body wipes in your hospital bag. Also ensure to pack the correct size of diapers for a newborn baby.
2. Nursing pillow
“A newborn baby can feel uncomfortable for the first couple of days in the crib. A nursing pillow might help you position your baby for a better latch. Also, after going through labour, the last thing you want to worry about is having to prop up your kid to breastfeed when you’re already exhausted,” says Dr Gupta.
After all that hard work, you’ll want to clean up before the visitors arrive and the camera is turned on. Pack some face wipes, a toothbrush, a hairbrush, and whatever cosmetics you choose.
4. Slippers/ Flip flops
Hospitals are the most practical choice for giving birth, although they may get quite chilly and make the woman very uncomfortable. Hospitals are hardly the most comfortable places in the world. Although they are a safe and convenient place to give birth, the experience can be sterile and frigid. Something as simple as a comfortable pair of slippers may make all the difference. Post-delivery food items
Some women have rapid deliveries that do not last very long. On the other side, there have been some women who have experienced lengthy deliveries.
When preparing her hospital bag, every lady should strive to prepare for the second situation. It may surprise some women that there are times when giving birth might be a little dull.
6. Sanitary pads
Heavy bleeding is one of the many things that women should expect when recuperating from childbirth. The bleeding that occurs after a child is generally much heavier than the normal period a woman gets every month, so she should keep that in mind. Mom should include some extras in their hospital bag. After all, they may require more than what the hospital provides, or they may require pads of a different size entirely.
7. Adult diapers
According to Dr Gupta, after delivery, the mother can experience a lot of weakness and some women can’t even move from the bed. In this situation, an adult diaper can be very helpful.
8. Lotion and lip balm
Giving birth to a newborn can cause a lot of dehydration in the mother’s body. This can lead to dry and itchy skin. The recommendation would be to use a lotion and lip balm to prevent that from happening. This might also help the mother look fresh for those essential Instagram selfies and posts.
