The festival of Eid ul-fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide. It marks the time to break the month-long fasting period with feasting family and friends. Generally, the Eid menu is filled with spicy and heavy-meat recipes such as biryani, rich meat curries, and kebabs. However, many people choose healthier food options, especially if they are trying to lose weight. If you have been looking for some lip-smacking healthy snack recipes to enjoy this EID without feeling guilty, here are some recipes to help you out.

6 mouthwatering yet healthy EID snack recipes

Here are some nutritious and healthy snack recipes to enjoy Eid ul-fitr with friends and family, as explained by chef Shipra Khanna and nutritionist Eti Jain.

1. Grilled chicken skewers

Ingredients:

  • Chicken, cut in bite-size
  • 2 tablespoons of yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 tablespoon of paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander
  • Salt as per taste

Method:

  • Marinate bite-sized chicken pieces in a mixture of yoghurt, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, and your favourite spices (such as cumin, paprika, and coriander).
  • Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers, alternating with colourful bell peppers, onions, and cherry tomatoes.
  • Grill the skewers until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char on the outside. Serve with a yoghurt-based dip sauce flavoured with mint and lemon zest.

2. Tandoori chicken lettuce wraps

Ingredients:

  • 500 gram chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons of yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon tandoori masala
  • 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon red chilli powder

Method:

  • Marinate chicken breasts in a mixture of yoghurt, lemon juice, tandoori masala, garlic paste, ginger paste, and a pinch of red chilli powder.
  • Grill or bake the chicken until fully cooked, then slice it into thin strips.
  • Wash and dry large lettuce leaves, such as romaine or butter lettuce, and use them as wraps.
  • Fill each lettuce leaf with the sliced tandoori chicken, diced tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion slices, and a dollop of Greek yoghurt or raita.
  • Roll up the lettuce wraps and secure them with toothpicks if needed, then serve as a light and refreshing snack.

3. Air fried masala fish

Ingredients:

  • 500 gram fish fillets (such as pomfret or kingfish)
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour or besan (gram flour)
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges and onion rings for serving

Method:

  • In a bowl, mix ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, and salt to form a marinade.
  • Rub the marinade over the fish fillets, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the air fryer.
  • Coat the marinated fish fillets with rice flour or besan.
  • Place the fish fillets in an air fryer and brush with oil. Cook until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges and onion rings as a delicious and spicy Eid snack.

4. Low fat tandoori chicken tikka

  • 500g boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

Method:

  • In a bowl, combine plain yoghurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and toss until well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  • Preheat the grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  • Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.
  • Grill or bake the chicken skewers for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and slightly charred.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.

5. Fruit salad with honey lime dressing

Ingredients:

  • Assorted fruits (such as strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, pineapple, and grapes)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Method:

  • Wash and chop the fruits into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together honey and lime juice to make the dressing.
  • Pour the dressing over the fruit salad and gently toss to coat.
  • Garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving.
