The novel coronavirus has changed life in several ways. There’s not even an ounce of doubt that the second wave is even more dangerous than the previous one. Yet, there are a number of precautions one can take in preventing the transmission of the virus. In this regard, there are quite a few Bollywood celebrities who’ve been trying to raise awareness about precautionary measures.
Recently, both Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malaika Arora shared a story on their Instagram accounts, which read ‘What to do if someone is sick in your household.’ It’s really important to learn about managing space, if you have a person in your family who’s sick or a covid-19 suspect.
Here’s what to do if someone is sick in your household:
1. Isolate the sick person
If a person in your family is sick or could have covid-19, then he/she must be isolated, in order to prevent them from transferring the infection to others. Here’s how you can do it:
- Have a separate room or isolated space, and keep your distance from others.
- Keep the room well-ventilated and open windows frequently.
2. Reduce contact with the virus
We all know, the virus can be inhaled directly and can also spread, when a person touches a surface or object. It could further spread when a person touches their mouth, nose, and eyes. Therefore it’s important that you:
- Identify the household member to be the contact person, who is not at high risk and has the fewest contacts with people outside.
- Wear a medical mask, if in the same room as the sick person.
- Use separate dishes, cups, utensils, and bedding.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
3. Take care of the sick person
Sickness weakens the body, that’s why taking good care is always important. So:
- Monitor the sick person’s symptoms regularly.
- Pay special attention, if the person is at a high risk for serious illness.
- Ensure the sick person rests and stays hydrated.
Always look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19 and call your healthcare provider immediately, if you see any of these danger signs:
- Difficulty breathing;
- Loss of speech on mobility and;
- Chest pain
Remember, it’s always safer to:
- Maintain social distancing by staying six feet apart from those who don’t live with you;
- Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer;
- Wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth properly to help protect yourself and others;
- If you’re not wearing a mask, then always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Also, make sure not to spit;
- Stay at home and keep the room well-ventilated in order to maintain or improve air quality.
