It was a rather funny discovery that happened out of pure necessity and scanty resources available at home due to the lockdown a few months back.

Everyone at home was reluctant to step out to buy things. The groceries and essentials were being delivered at home but things fell apart when one fine day, our milkman was not able to deliver milk to us.

Making do with what we had meant that I would have to give my morning skincare routine a miss—the same routine that involved cleansing my face with a cotton pad dipped in milk and massaging the milk into my skin.

However, just when I had given up hope, my chai-obsessed father was spotted making tea using milk powder in the kitchen. I decided to use it on my face, much to his disapproval.

I went for it anyway and took one teaspoon of it, mixed it well with water, and applied the paste on my skin after washing my face. I left it on to dry, and then rinsed it off with water.

Man, did I get hooked to it!
Right after that first rinse, my skin was glowing when I looked at myself in the mirror. Since then, I have continued to use milk powder on my face every alternate day in the morning. Two months into it, and I have a visibly smoother, brighter skin.

If you’re wondering how that happened, here’s an answer by Dilip Kundlia, skin expert and director, Oshea Herbals, to put your curiosity to rest.

“Blending milk powder as an ingredient in the homespun facial packs has innumerable benefits that could help you in attaining radiant skin. It is considered an effective panacea for crystal-clear skin just like milk. It is rich in lactic acid which naturally cleans and brightens skin. Besides skin lightening, what makes milk powder an apt ingredient for the skin is the concentration of vitamins and minerals. This acts as a skin purifier. It can also rid the skin of unwanted impurities like blackheads and whiteheads,” he explains.

3. Gram flour, milk powder, and lemon: Gram flour tunes the moisture and detaches the redundant oil from the skin. Milk powder has lactic acid which purifies the skin and makes the best remedy for oily skin. Hence, mix the gram flour, milk powder, and lemon in a bowl to make a paste. Apply the paste on your face, leave it on to dry. Rinse off with cold water.
