Condoms act as a barrier, preventing sperm from reaching the egg. They also offer protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Condoms
These oral contraceptives contain hormones that prevent ovulation. These are meant to be taken daily and require consistency for best results.
Birth Control Pills
IUDs are small, T-shaped devices placed in the uterus. They prevent sperm from fertilizing the egg and can last several years. It can be removed when you decide to become pregnant.
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
A tiny rod implanted under the skin releases the progestin hormone to prevent pregnancy. This is done by hindering the ovary from releasing an egg, and the sperm from reaching the cervix.
Implants
Worn on the skin, contraceptive patches release hormones to prevent ovulation. They need to be replaced weekly for consistent effectiveness.
Patches
These small, flexible rings release hormones estrogen and progestin, and are inserted into the vagina. They primarily prevent ovulation.
Vaginal Rings
Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) can be taken after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. They are not for regular use but work within 72 hours.
Emergency Contraception
Permanent methods like tubal ligation or vasectomy are ideal for those who no longer wish to have children. These methods are irreversible.

Hormonal injections are given every three months, preventing ovulation. They are convenient but require timely follow-up doses.

Methods like fertility awareness and withdrawal involve tracking the menstrual cycle or avoiding ejaculation inside the vagina. But these have higher failure rates.
