Cancer is difficult to battle not only because of the physical symptoms but also due to the tangible mental health effects it has. At times, hearing about someone else’s journey can provide much clarity about what experiencing the disease feels like.
Recently, actress Sonali Bendre took to Instagram to share something from her cancer journey. Now, most people know that Sonali was diagnosed with cancer but not many are aware of the fact that she was suffering from metastatic cancer. This means that, in her case, cancer had spread from the organ of origin to other parts.
“How time flies… today when I look back, I see strength, I see weakness but most importantly I see the will to not let the C word define how my life will be after it…”
She shared a before and after collage of her recovery too. On the left side, there’s an image of Sonali at the hospital and still going under treatment for cancer. For the right side, Sonali chose a post-recovery image where you can see her regaining her health.
In 2018, Sonali was diagnosed with high criticality cancer that metastasized. Her family urged her to visit the USA for treatment. Initially, she wasn’t sure about travelling all the way to another country during such a critical time. But, the gravity of the situation hit her when she was informed that her cancer had advanced to the fourth stage, leaving her with a 30% chance of survival.
During the course of her treatment, she also consulted a psychiatrist in New York to take care of her mental well-being.
Her followers and well wishers showered her with love, good wishes and affection in the comments section. A number of noted personalities like Zoya Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Sussanne Khan, Manish Malhotra and Abhishek Bachchan commented on her post to show their love and express how they are inspired by her journey.
She has been documenting her journey on various social media channels, inspiring and empowering her fans and followers to fight this ailment with courage.
She ended the post by saying, “You create the life you choose. The journey is what you make of it… so remember to take #OneDayAtATime and to #SwitchOnTheSunshine #CancerSurvivorsDay.”
Sonali Bendre is a true fighter!
