The ongoing year is the time when travel is expected to get back to a new normal. And, a huge part of that new normal will be the continuation of wearing face masks. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on air travel. Recently, lockdown restrictions have been relaxed in India, giving everyone a breather. Nevertheless, if you’re traveling for the holidays or just taking a much-needed vacation, you may be wondering: What is the masking protocol for optimally safe air travel? Before you get into finding out how to choose a mask mask meant for travel, first and foremost, get vaccinated, folks! Remember, a variety of masks when worn correctly and consistently, offer a steady protection against Covid-19.

However, in case you’re curious about the kind of mask you should wear on your travel days, read on

Here are some points you should consider on how to choose a mask before you travel:

1. Best filtration quality

To prevent Covid-19 spread, good filtration efficiency is necessary. A mask without efficacious filtration cannot protect you adequately. One should buy masks that can filter particles down to 0.1-micron with a 95 percent efficacy. With this, you will ensure protection from viruses, pathogens and air pollution.

2. Masks that fit best

Does the mask fit snugly around your face but isn’t too constricting? The mask should cover your nose and fit across the bridge of your nose and cheeks, sit comfortably under your chin and hug the sides of your face and cheeks without gaps. When you’re on the road, having to readjust your mask time and again is very distracting. Moreover, it compromises your health and safety.

“For this reason, masks with adjustable ear loops and a medical-grade silicone seal provide the best fit, and come highly recommended.” says Gupta.

3. Check breathability

Travelling engages you in a lot of physical activity. One should have a travel mask that allows ample air ventilation. Several masks have high filtration capacities. However, not all of them offer good breathability. Masks certified by the Nelson labs inhalation/exhalation test offer ample air inflow while maintaining high filtration standards.

4. Sustainability

Gupta suggests wearing silicon seal masks that are made with materials of the highest quality and are completely washable and reusable. The nanofiber filter is the only part that needs replacement every 30-45 days.

5. Look for premium materials

Buying a mask made of high-quality materials is essential for safety. Low-quality masks don’t use materials that provide adequate protection. Masks made with medical-grade silicone and one that uses a 3-layer electrostatic fiber can protect you better while traveling. Such masks not only provide exceptional comfort and safety, but they look great as well!

It has been a long time since masks were devised as a necessity to beat the risk of coronavirus. Now, masks have evolved into stylish and expressive travel accessories. This travel essential is as important as your cosmetics or sport shoes for your holiday adventures. Therefore, if you are planning to take a flight or an exciting road trip to the mountains, it’s time to replace the flimsy reusable or fabric mask with a better protective gear.
