As they say, a smile is like a window to your personality. Straight teeth not only are essential for a beautiful smile, but also enhance one’s overall confidence and persona.
Data from the American Association of Orthodontists shows that more than one-third of adults in America are disappointed with their smiles. About 36 percent believe that their social life would improve with better-aligned teeth, while 22 percent feel that good teeth would enhance their love life. A campus-based survey published in 2013, showed that 81 percent of students wished to have better teeth, while 26.3 percent were dissatisfied with their looks owing to the appearance of teeth. Two data sets from completely different geographies echo the same pursuit – that, of a perfect smile!
In consideration of this, people are increasingly seeking treatments to fix their smiles. What is critical is that they choose the right solution for teeth straightening.
HealthShots spoke to Dr Prahlad Shenava, a leading Orthodontist from Bengaluru, to weigh in the facts around choosing the right teeth straightening procedure.
“Every orthodontic treatment is unique and customized, therefore there is no one-size-fits-all approach to it. An in-detail examination of the patient and their teeth position within the jaws and their inter-relationship needs to be assessed before starting any treatment,” says Dr Shenava.
“Orthodontists study individual dental records and interpret x-rays to evaluate risks of potential complications, before starting treatment. A simple problem, for example, Mild spacing between the front teeth might have an underlying bite issue or malocclusion causing it in the first place. Hence, it is critical to choose the treatment plan based on clinical evidence,” adds Dr Shenava.
Recent advancements have led to a plethora of options for patients looking to straighten their teeth inconspicuously. And given its convenience and comfort, more people are opting for clear aligner treatments.
Working with a trained orthodontist in a professional system might incur an additional expense initially, but will be totally worthwhile. It will ensure that your journey toward a healthier smile is much safer, more effective, and less stressful – start to finish.
So, choose wisely!
