If there is one Bollywood celebrity who inspires us the most with her healthy lifestyle, is none other than Malaika Arora. Her Instagram page is sure to motivate you to get up and move your body. Whatever be the situation, she never compromises on her fitness. What we love the most about her is how she always gives her audience a sneak peek into her favourite asanas and workouts.

This time around, she has shared an exercise to strengthen your lungs. We all know lung health has become the topmost priority, ever since the covid-19 outbreak. The current strain seems to attack the lungs more furiously. In fact, most of the patients are found to have moderate to severe lung complications, as compared to earlier. Under such circumstances, it is even more essential to be cautious.

In her recent Instagram story, Malaika has shared a video clip, in which a pair of lungs are drawn and there’s a circle around it. And there’s a red ball that’s constantly moving around the circumference of the circle. The Bollywood beauty explained one can use the test to get an idea about their lung health.

Here’s what she wrote in her story, “If you can hold your breath for the red ball to spin two times, you have normal lungs, five rounds are strong lungs and 10 rounds are superhuman lungs.”

That means if you are able to hold your breath for five rounds of the ball, your lungs are strong and healthy. And if you can hold the breath until the ball completes 10 rounds, your lungs are very strong.

Lastly, she also asked her followers and fans to practice this test everyday. That’s because holding your breath is an exercise that can benefit you in several ways.

Here are the benefits of holding your breath:
  1. It’s a perfectly safe activity; you can start practising it for 10-20 seconds, and keep increasing the time limit, based on your comfort.
  2. Holding your breath is one of the most effective ways to increase lung capacity. It also helps to strengthen the lungs.
  3. Improved breathing and lung function may improve your longevity.
  4. It helps to allow the regeneration of the new tissues in the brain to preserve brain function.
  5. Practising deep breathing techniques that involve holding your breath may reduce stress and anxiety, and promote relaxation.
  6. Also, it helps to strengthen your diaphragm, which is located just below your lungs. It plays an important role in the process of breathing.

So, practise the exercise regularly to strengthen your lungs, so that you can give the virus a tough fight!
