Suffering from fever is one of the most unpleasant experiences, isn’t it? Your body temperature shoots up, and you spend the whole day feeling immensely fatigued. In fact, some people also experience loss of appetite. In extreme cases, one might also suffer from dehydration, weakness and chills. For adults, 98.6 °F or 37 °C is considered to be normal temperature but it can differ from person to person. If your temperature is above 99°F, it could mean you’re suffering from an infection. 

You can always consume medicine to bring your body temperature down but there are certain home remedies as well that will help you break a fever naturally. Going au natural is always the best option given that it is much safer than anything chemical-based and effective as well.

1. Consume basil

Basil or tulsi has always found favour amongst people for its medicinal properties. Turns out, this herb is just as effective as any other antibiotic when it comes to fever. It’s super simple — add a handful of basil leaves and 1 teaspoon of crushed ginger to water and boil it until the solution gets reduced to half. You can add a little honey, and drink this potion several times a day.

2. Go gaga over garlic

This list is incomplete without the mention of garlic, a plant that is loaded with antibacterial properties. Research says that garlic contains diallyl sulfides which are anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal in nature. Such properties of garlic contribute towards lowering your body temperature. Crush 1 garlic clove and add it to a cup of hot water. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes, and then strain. Consume this mixture at least twice a day to break your fever.

3. Gorge on ginger

Adrak or ginger has always been our trusted companion when it comes to cold and cough. So, why not fever? It contains natural antiviral and antibacterial properties that tackle all kinds of infection while strengthening your immunity system. You can sip from a steaming cup of adrak ki chai. Alternatively, you can add just a pinch of grated ginger to a cup of boiling water and have this potion to drive fever away. There’s another option: Mix 1 teaspoon of ginger juice, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Consume this elixir several times a day!

4. Make ‘apple cider vinegar’ the apple of your eye

This might come as a surprise, but apple cider vinegar works wonderfully well to break fever naturally. This liquid is acidic in nature and helps drive away heat from within, enabling your body to cool down. Moreover, the vitamins and minerals present in apple cider vinegar replenish the lost minerals in your body. Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. Drink this potion several times a day.
