Amid a pandemic, experiencing a few commonalities might be reassuring for people. There’s panic, when things are out of the ordinary. When it comes to the covid-19 vaccine, people have been hearing about a whole range of side-effects that the vaccine is causing. That is one of the major reasons why several people have been apprehensive about getting inoculated.

But guess what? There are a few, who haven’t experienced even a single side-effect after getting vaccinated. Thinking how lucky they are? Well, we aren’t too sure about that.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all the vaccinations have some or the other kind of side-effects. Most common of them is having a covid-arm, where you feel stiffness, notice rashes, or pain in the arm, where you’ve been given the shot.

CDC also mentioned some other side-effects, other than a covid-arm.

Typically, they are:

  • Swelling at the injection site
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Nausea

But the question remains: what if you don’t get any of these, or let’s say no side-effects? Does it mean your body hasn’t accepted the dose? Can it also mean you’re still vulnerable to covid-19?

Well, to find the answer to all these questions, we have with us Dr Pritam Moon, a consultant physician at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai. Let’s read her take on it.

Understanding why there is no side-effect of covid-19 vaccine is important, says Dr Moon

From May 1 2021, everyone who is above the age of 18 will be eligible to get the covid-19 vaccine. That’s why it is important to know everything beforehand.

The good news is if you don’t get any side-effects after getting vaccinated (either first or both the doses), there is nothing to worry about.

Dr Moon says, “Yes, it is a fact that no one wants to see any side effects after getting vaccinated. But, those who don’t get any side-effects will feel strange, mainly because they may have heard from others about their unpleasant side-effects. It may also make them wonder if the vaccination is working for them. However, it doesn’t mean you’re not protected from the virus. So, do not think there is a problem with you, as everyone is different and may respond differently to the vaccination. Also, the response can be unpredictable. Your immune system can do a whole lot of things, without even making you experience any symptoms, in order to keep the virus at bay. So, a side-effect is not necessary.”

Ladies, read this before you get the vaccine

“A study suggests women are more prone to getting side-effects than men. Side-effects are your body’s response to the vaccination. Those who’ve already had covid may experience side-effects like chills. Just because you may get side-effects doesn’t mean you should avoid taking the jab. Even younger people can have some side-effects,” says Dr Moon.

The major reason behind women being more vulnerable is their low immunity. Most women across the globe are anemic or have problems that make their immune system weak. Hence, it is important that you start working on yourself right away.

Eat clean, sleep well, exercise, and stay hydrated to avoid all the obnoxious side-effects of covid-19 vaccine.

So the bottom line is side-effects or no side-effects, you need to get yourself vaccinated. We know it’s not foolproof but right now, it’s the only thing that can offer you some protection from the virus.
