Most people aren’t even aware that they have an allergy. Symptoms like continuous sneezing, runny/blocked nose, watery eyes, itchy nose or throat are signs of allergy—and often ignored. In fact, you can be allergic to many things like dust, pollens, paint, dampness, pet dander, and perfumes. And each one of these allergies has early signs or symptoms attached to them.

Anyone can develop an allergy. In fact, most people you ask will have a different story of how they discovered their signs and symptoms of allergies. Simply put, when our immune system identifies a benign item (like dust, pollen, or dander) as harmful, it responds to it with an allergic reaction symptom.

Typically, an allergic reaction develops within a few minutes of being exposed. Occasionally, it can develop gradually over a few hours. Allergic reactions may be mild to severe. Nonetheless, it’s important to know what they are so that you can be alert and report it to your doctor when required.

Today we are listing the top six signs of respiratory allergic reactions in detail so that you can seek help at the right time:

1. Runny nose

This is one of the most common signs of allergies. And whenever there is a change in season, it becomes all the more prominent. The reason? Dust, pollen or even spores in the air. Also known as allergic rhinitis, it is when your nose starts to drip or gets blocked, and you have a hard time breathing.

This symptom can also be a reaction of certain pungent smells like detergent, petrol, cleanser, and spirit. This means you are allergic to these smells as well.

2. Continuous sneezing

People who have respiratory allergy are also prone to sneezing. That’s because allergens create irritation in the nose due to which you end up sneezing continuously. Sneezing is our body’s way to squeeze out the allergen from the system.

3. Itchy throat

Our nasal tract and throat are inter-connected That’s the reason when you get any respiratory allergy it affects your throat as well. If you are having an allergic reaction, you might find it difficult to swallow and might also experience pain in the throat.

4. Watery and itchy eyes

Respiratory allergy can also lead to watery and itchy eyes. This majorly happens due to a runny nose—similar to when you get a cold.

Thankfully, this symptom is not severe and you can get rid of it by washing your eyes on regular intervals. But if you don’t feel any relief from watery and itchy eyes, then you must visit your doctor as it can aggravate the problem.

5. Chest tightening

Many people with asthma end up experiencing chest tightening when they come in contact with an allergen. This is because allergic reactions can cause congestion and breathlessness, because of which they might feel claustrophobic and some tightness in the chest.

6. Headache

Know someone who gets a headache after smelling perfume? Well, this is another sign of allergies. Certain allergens or strong smells can lead to irritation in the nose and constant sneezing, which can then cause a severe headache.

These are some very common allergic reactions that many one of us deal with on a regular basis. If these symptoms persist, please consult a doctor to get proper treatment for your allergies.
