What’s the most common sound that you heard at the onset of winters? No, it’s not the chirping of birds but it is the sound of people sneezing and coughing around you. Isn’t it? Well, we just can’t blame them as the air around us is toxic to an extent that it just wrecks our system left, right, and center. That’s why getting an air purifier is becoming a mandate.

Every year around this time we talk about smog, air pollution, and breathing problems associated with it. That’s because with every passing year, the problem of air pollution is becoming grim, and to an extent that smog and cold weather are taking many lives and also damaging people’s lungs and other respiratory organs.

This becomes all the more severe for those who had been infected with Covid-19 and got lung patches. Unfortunately, this smoggy winter can be a little more dreadful for them. Sigh! But can we really do anything about it? The answer is YES.

The first thing that you can do is get an air purifier installed in your home ASAP.

Are you thinking why? Let’s spill the beans.

Why do you need an air purifier at home?

There was a time when we used to think that having a water purifier is all fancy-schmancy but now every home has one. Likewise, air purifiers are slowly becoming a thing and Dr Arvind Kate, a pulmonologist at Zen Multispecialty Hospital, Mumbai, explains why.

1. Improves symptoms of asthma

Pollens, allergens, dust, and molds at home thrive in humid environments causing breathing problems. These factors can cause asthma attacks. Thus, air purifiers trap these particles, keep the air free of pollutants, and reduce the chances of breathing difficulties due to asthma.

2. Help get rid of harmful chemicals

Toxic chemicals like ammonia, chlorine, and phthalates can cause serious health problems like cancer, cardiovascular, or neurological disorders. Air purifiers with activated carbon help cleanse these chemical contaminants, avoiding the risk of several health problems.

3. Curbs the chances of airborne diseases

Common cold and flu are spread via tiny pathogens floating around. Air purifiers capture these bacteria and viruses and help keep infections at bay.

People with any of these 7 lungs problem must have an air purifier this season

1. Asthma

Air purifiers are bliss for people with asthma because they eliminate bacteria and viruses from the air which apparently trigger inflammation in them.

2. Bronchitis

“ This happens when the bronchial tubes that carry air to the lungs get inflamed and swollen. Air purifier tackles pollutants that trigger bronchitis symptoms like shortness of breath” Dr Kate tells HealthSHots.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

It can be described as chronic inflammatory lung disease causing obstructed airflow from the lungs. Air purifiers will keep the air clean and filter airborne toxins that are irritants causing breathing problems.

3. Common cold and cough

Now that’s very common when there is a season swap. Those with these symptoms can choose a good air purifier that helps keep the air clean and improve symptoms like coughing.

4. Pneumonia

“Pneumonia is an infection that causes inflammation of the air sacs in one or both lungs. Air purifiers are known to enhance lung function in general by improving breathing problems in pneumonia patients,” says Dr Kate.

5. Cystic fibrosis (CF)

This can be termed as a condition that causes severe damage to the respiratory and digestive systems. It filters out bacteria and allergens and helps one breathe freely.

6. Lung fibrosis

It means scarring of the lungs and permanently damaging them. Air purifiers trap domestic air pollutants, even the finest particles, clean the air, and enhance one’s breathing.

“During winter, smog is a common occurrence that makes it difficult to breathe, causing a wide range of respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and many more. It is imperative to avoid pollution and breathe fresh air. Hence, investing in an air purifier can do the trick here,” concludes Dr Kate.

So take a pledge ladies, that this winter you and your entire family will breathe free in the presence of an uber safe air purifier.
