Oral health is considered an integral aspect of this school of medicine. That’s exactly why we are here to talk about the age-old technique of using neem sticks to brush teeth.

Neem twigs or datun have been traditionally used to maintain oral hygiene, much before toothbrushes came into existence. But do they really work? Let’s find out!

Here how brushing teeth with a neem twig is the better choice:

Neem is a popular medicinal herb of Ayurvedic medicine and widely used for different purposes. There are numerous ways with which you can maintain dental health with neem but using neem twig for brushing your teeth is the most popular and effective method.

Here are the benefits of using neem twigs:
1. Protects you against bacteria

The Ayurvedic natural organic neem twig is effective in fighting germs. Therefore, it helps to keep bacteria at bay. Moreover, its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties can do wonders to protect your oral health.

2. Maintains the alkaline level

Brushing teeth with neem datun helps to maintain the alkaline levels in your saliva, further aiding in remineralizing enamel and fighting against cavity-causing bacteria.

4. Prevent plaque

Because neem twigs are capable of reducing bacterial load in the oral cavity, they help to prevent the accumulation of plaque, tartar and ulcers. If you don’t brush daily, your tooth enamel will get filled with plaque.

5. Teeth whitening

You’ll definitely find neem datun helpful in whitening your teeth. It removes the yellowish color and makes your teeth look white.

6. Eliminates bad odor

Neem twigs work as a mouth freshener, helping to remove the bad odour from your mouth to keep it fresh.

Here’s how you can use neem twigs like a toothbrush:

It is one of the oldest methods used in India for good dental health. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Put one stick in your mouth and nibble off the bark with your teeth, up to one-two inches.
  • Chew until the twig shreds into bristles. The sticks are a bit hard, so this will take a while.
  • Now, you can use this twig to rub your teeth, as you do with a conventional brush. That’s it, you’re done.

It is important to note that a small amount of neem oil is released when you brush your teeth with neem twigs. Neem oil and its antibacterial properties are major factors behind the effectiveness of the neem datun, so what are you waiting for?
