Surely the year-end begins with chipping, dipping, and margarita sipping! But the beginning to this end can actually bring your fitness game to a close.

After all, walking into the new year is incomplete without enjoying the booze, your favourite food, and well, a messed-up up body as a result.

But if you also want to walk into the new year with some reduced health damaged, a party season ‘pretox’ can help you a great deal. Here’s what you can do:

1. Avoid junk
When you let loose at those parties, you will obviously indulge in the food that tempts you. So, you might as well stick to eating healthy, wholesome, home-cooked food before the parties begin so as to keep your system strong.

In fact, hog on the nutritionally-dense foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and other essential micro-nutrients to stay stronger and energetic.

2. Up the protein and fibre intake
On the day of the party, especially, make sure you’re eating fibre-rich foods like fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains and protein-rich foods like eggs, chicken, and dals. Since they take time to digest, eating them can keep you full for a long time and stop you from overeating at the party.

3. Stay hydrated
All the boozing is going to dehydrate you to the core. So, if you really don’t want your next day’s hangover to go from bad to worse due to muscle cramping and excessive headache from the lack of water in your body; keep your water intake as high as possible—especially during the week before the back-to-back-party days. Around 8-10 glasses is the recommended amount, so you better stick to it, okay?

4. Intensify your workouts beforehand
Imagine how amazing it would be if your rest days could coincide with the party days, when you anyway would have missed your workout. Now, stop imagining and do just that.

5. Change your workout routine
If you usually workout in the evenings, switch to morning workouts, especially during the party season. Firstly, doing so will leave your evenings free and so, you won’t have an excuse to skip exercise.

Secondly, n number of studies have proven how exercising can help you beat unnecessary food cravings and make you more conscious of what you’re eating.

So, it’s time to put this knowledge to practice so as to avoid going overboard with snacks and junk during the party.

6. Swap coffee for herbal teas
From the relaxing chamomile tea to the digestion-aiding peppermint tea, ditching the dehydrating coffee for herbal teas can prepare your body for the torture to come by providing it with a generous doze of antioxidants and boosting its immunity.

This way, even if you end up eating or drinking something wrong, your body might just be able to fight off the resulting infection before it hits you.

7. Equip your liver and gut with some extra might
While the junk food usually available at parties can upset your gut, the alcohol consumption can damage your liver. Hence, it only makes sense to include more gut-friendly foods like yogurt, home-cooked, fermented foods (like idlis), apples, papaya etc; as well as liver-strengthening foods such as garlic, grapes, and oatmeal in your diet.

8. Keep aloe vera juice handy
Keep fresh aloe vera juice ready this party season because drinking just a shot of it before heading for the party can line your stomach. It can protect it from damage from the alcohol to a certain extent, and also prevent acidity. Try it to believe it.
