To all the people with spectacles, we know that the perennial presence of a plastic frame on the bridge of your nose can be so troublesome and exhausting. After a certain time it can feel like they weigh a pound and drag you down, and let’s not even get started on the painful marks they leave on our nose. But what if we told you that it may be possible to get rid of specs with some eye exercises! Let’s take a look at them.

Spectacles can be a hindrance in our daily lives, especially during the pandemic, with the mask and the fogged up spectacles. Well, let’s not even touch that nerve. Getting rid of your eye glasses doesn’t seem like such a bad idea when looked at its cons. But is eye surgery the only way out? Absolutely not!

There is largely a lack of scientific evidence regarding the efficacy of exercises or even consumption of herbs to improve eye health. However, according to a 2013 study published in PubMed Central, a combination of various eye exercises can help one get clearer and sharper vision with their letter recognition increased. Although it is a slow process and takes time, you are bound to get results if you are consistent with it. Even if these exercises are unable to permanently get rid of the glasses, you may still notice an improvement in your eyesight which will automatically lead to lesser need for glasses.

Let us also remind you that you need to consult an ophthalmologist to correct your vision issues, instead of relying on exercises or food entirely to correct vision.

“Exercises cannot help you lower your eye glasses number,” said eye specialist, Dr. Samir Sud, Director & Co-founder of Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals. He further adds, “Meanwhile, eye exercises can be particularly helpful for people who experience digital eye strain, which is related to the prolonged use of computers and can help you strengthen your eye muscles which will lead to clearer vision.”

Harshvardhan Saraf, founder of Satvic Movement, suggested some exercises that showed results for him. He says, “By doing these eye exercises daily, combined with sun gazing and the correct diet regime, I was able to get rid of my glasses completely. Haven’t worn glasses since the past 3 years.”

Eye exercises that may improve your vision:

1. Eye rotations

Rotate your pupils clockwise and anti-clockwise. Make sure you are slow with your movements or you will end up giving yourself a head rush. Do this for 10 times in each direction.

2. Eye push ups

For this exercise, you need to align your thumb in front of your eyes and then move it forward. Your eyes should be focused on your thumb until your arm is fully stretched and then shift focus. Bring back your thumb and repeat this exercise 10 times.

3. Fast blinking

Shut and close your eyes very quickly in a continuous manner for at least 10 seconds. Fast blinking helps in cleaning your eyes and producing fresh tears.

4. Lateral movements

Look up and down, then look left and right. Do each of these sets 10 times. This helps in strengthening your eye muscles which leads to clearer vision and easy movements.

6. Diagonal movements

For this, move your eyes diagonally from top right to bottom left and vice versa. Repeat 10 times on each side.

7. Palming

Palming is a perfect way to end your routine. Rub your palms together until they are warm and then place them gently on your eyes. This will help your eye muscles relax.

So, give these eye exercises a try and stay consistent with them. You may see some satisfactory results!
