Believe it or not, we all have inflammation in our bodies. Basically it’s nothing but the response of your immune system towards any infection, injury, etc. But sometimes, due to certain auto-immune diseases, this function of your body is disrupted.

Because of this reason, the body’s mechanism to respond to certain diseases becomes slow, and our immune system starts to get weak with every passing day. A sedentary lifestyle, and in fact some foods, are major triggers that can wreak havoc on your body.

Unfortunately, if you aren’t able to control inflammation in a timely manner, then you become highly prone to some nerve-wrecking diseases, which can make life all the more difficult for you.

Want to know what these diseases are? Let’s find out.

Here are seven diseases that you can get if you don’t keep inflammation in check:

1. You will be more prone to allergies

According to Dr Vikramjeet Singh, senior consultant, department of internal medicine, Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi, allergens can cause inflammation in our bodies, and is largely mediated by IgE-dependent mechanisms. This can cause a pattern characteristic of inflammation, qualified by eosinophils (a type of disease-fighting white blood cell) and mast cells. Due to this, it becomes harder for your body to fight back those allergens, and you fall sick.

2. You can get asthma

“Inflammation can make the air passages sensitive to irritants and triggers of asthma. Besides, it can narrow the air passages and make it difficult for air to pass through it. Inflammation in the airways can also cause airway oedema, bronchoconstriction (a condition in which the smooth muscles of the bronchus contracts), vasodilatation (the dilation of blood vessels decreasing blood pressure), and activation of sensory nerve endings,” explains Dr Singh.

3. You can get autoimmune diseases like arthritis

Do you know someone with an autoimmune disease goes through several challenges? That’s because the body’s immune system attacks healthy cells. These can be seen in illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis. Unfortunately, with age, it becomes harder to endure these illnesses.

4. You might fall for glomerulonephritis

“It is inflammation of the tiny filters in kidneys known as glomeruli that remove extra fluid, electrolytes and waste from blood, and pass them into urine. The onset of glomerulonephritis can be sudden / acute or gradual / chronic. Early diagnosis and treatment may prevent kidney failure,” he warns.

5. Hepatitis is also a possibility

Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the liver. It is commonly caused by a viral infection. However, inflammation of the liver can be caused by drinking alcohol — this condition is known as alcoholic hepatitis. That’s why you should always limit your alcohol intake, and if you drink , then you should always consume a healthy diet.

6. Inflammation can also lead to coeliac disease

“It is an immune reaction to eating gluten, and damages the gut or small intestine, affecting your ability to take in nutrients. Coeliac disease can cause diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bloating,” explains Dr Singh.

7. Sadly, inflammatory bowel disease is also in line

A bad gut means a bad day. Think if the situation stays like that all your life. Isn’t this thought giving you jitters?

“An umbrella term that describes disorders involving chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, most common types of IBD include Crohn’s disease, a chronic IBD that affects the lining of the digestive tract and ulcerative colitis that causes inflammation in the digestive tract,” concludes Dr Singh.

So it’s better to nip this issue right in the beginning, so that it makes less chaos in your life!
