Whether you blame it on the sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating patterns or increased levels of stress, infertility is increasing amongst women today. And according to a study published in the journal of Reproductive Biology Endocrinology, infertility affects about 15 percent of women. That’s alarming to say the least!

But the good news is that when you reverse your unhealthy habits and stress levels, the chances of conceiving might increase as well. Make note of these five things that will help you boost your fertility in the coming year!

1. Maintain a healthy body weight

When it comes to fertility, your weight determines and influences many things. When you are overweight or under-weight, your hormones lose their balance. Moreover, the weight also affects your menstrual cycle, which can lead to lack of ovulation or no ovulation at all.

So, to improve your fertility, you need to actively work on yourself to maintain a healthy body weight. So, try to lose weight if you are overweight and gain weight if you are underweight, but make sure you are doing it in a sustainable way else it might backfire.

2. Keep your iron levels in check

You must be aware that iron deficiency leads to anaemia, which can affect your chances of getting pregnant. It is always better to avoid any such situation, so make sure your iron levels are in check and your body is not deficient.

An optimum level of iron in the bloodstream may decrease the risk of ovulatory infertility. Whether you include iron-rich food or supplements, do check with your doctor first for his recommendations.

3. Say goodbye to smoking and drinking

If you thought smoking only affects your lungs, then here’s a surprise for you: it also affects your fertility! According to a study published in the journal, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, it was found that the chemicals found in cigarette smoke, including nicotine and carbon dioxide, can increase the rate of women’s egg loss.

4. Don’t stress too much

It is needless to say that stress causes a hormonal imbalance that can also affect your reproductive hormones, and thus your fertility. A study published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior also found that stress can affect fertility in a negative way. So, if you want to improve your fertility, you need to stress less and stay more calm!
