The number of women suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is on the rise. Despite the rising numbers, managing this condition still comes as a challenge for women across the world. 1. Sleep should be your priority

Dr Tanaya says, “Get 8 hours of regular sleep every single night. And, if you are on a different sleep schedule. For example, if you are doing night duty or something, then make sure you are going to bed at the same time, and you are waking up at the same hour every single day. 8 hours of sleep every day is non-negotiable.” Women with PCOS may not be able to get enough sleep because of the changes in metabolism they could be experiencing, especially glucose (sugar) metabolism. PCOS is also a result of a hormonal imbalance among women which can have a detrimental impact on sleep quality.

2. Say no to stress

Stress is an inevitable part of our lives. However, women with PCOS shall do their best to reduce the amount of stress in their lives. The expert reckons to find and employ different ways to deal with everyday stress. When you are stressed, the stress hormones in your body rise up and this can flare up your PCOS. So, learn various coping mechanisms to lower your stress levels daily. You can try mindfulness techniques, doodling, or learn various grounding techniques to cope with stress.

3. Eat well

“You need to eat a balanced diet. You don’t need to cut out any food groups. You need not go dairy-free, gluten-free, or soy-free. Eat a healthy, nutritious, well-rounded diet,” shares the expert. It’s best to focus more on whole grains, fresh produce, and plant-based protein, while you may limit your sugar intake, and eat less processed foods, and trans-fat.

4. Get your body moving

It’s important to exercise regularly if you are dealing with PCOS. Exercise is really helpful to target the issues that come with PCOS. Alongside, exercising can help you lose weight which in turn can also help you manage your PCOS.

5. Chill, and relax!

We know living with issues like PCOS can be extremely daunting. However, learn to relax and let of things in life.
