Every woman wants her body in shape. To achieve that, many women turn to rigorous workout routines and dieting plans. But there are parts of the body where women may not necessarily like to lose weight. If you want your weight loss regime to not have an impact on the size of your breasts, read on.
Although there are many other factors that can affect your breast size, if you are following an exercise routine to lose weight, then your breast size can also decrease. Come, let’s reveal why a weight loss routine can affect your breast size.
Our breasts are made up primarily of fatty tissue. They also contain milk ducts and lymphatic tissues. Behind the breast is the pectoral muscle, and exercise can change breast size in a couple of ways. As you exercise more, you may lose weight, causing fat cells to shrink. Since the breasts are primarily fatty tissues, this can lead to a reduction of breast size.
Dr Indu Taneja, Director and Head of Department – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad, tells HealthShots, “This is a very disturbing fact that when you lose weight after a rigorous workout, you also lose your breast size. This happens because the breasts are mainly made of fat and when you lose fat from the rest of the body, you lose it from the breast too.”
When you follow a diet and exercising routine to lose weight, it affects your entire body fat, including breast fat, rather than being limited to just one specific area of your body. Since the breast consists mainly of fat cells, it is highly likely you will lose fat from your breast at first.

“But this is no reason to stay away from getting the perfect workout body. There are ways for shedding pounds without losing breast size. You should focus on a balanced diet and workout plans,” she adds.
Well, yes!
Follow a balanced diet that has a healthy percentage of all nutrients like sufficient protein and carbohydrates.
“Eat a diet that helps in increasing estrogen and phytoestrogen levels. That includes flaxseed, soy, yoghurt, soybeans, soya milk, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, and red beans,” suggests Dr Taneja.
Plus, avoid taking estrogen supplements.
“You should perform certain exercises to strengthen pectoral muscles. These muscles connect the chest with the shoulder and upper arms. As breasts are located on top of the pectoral muscles, strengthening these muscles helps in getting toned and firmer breasts,” says Dr Taneja.

Choosing the right kind of sports bra is essential for your workout regime. If you choose a bra of the wrong size, it can result in breast pain, sagging, and it can even harm your breast size, suggests Dr Taneja.
Exercise can minimize the damage, but it’s not the only way to keep your breasts from looking attractive. Regular breast massage can make a world of difference. Dr Taneja said, “Massaging your breasts twice a day may reduce the appearance of stretch marks and can improve their breasts’ look. Bitter almond oil is perfect over the rest of the oils.”
So, manage your diet and workout routine with these tips to help keep your breasts perky even as you shed body weight.
