Going for regular health checkups may prepare you to prevent health problems and keep in touch with what’s going on inside your body. While you may give proper emphasis on your heart health, blood pressure, kidney functioning or even thyroid gland, your sexual wellness may be often neglected. Well, that’s no good! Yes ladies, getting your fertility checks from time to time is important.

Isn’t it common to see people spend a significant amount of time trying to conceive a baby before realizing they need an expert to step in? In such cases, the need to make fertility testing a part of your regular health checkups comes into play. It is better to know if your body clock is really ticking or it is just your neighbourhood aunty’s need for gossip! Testing your fertility levels can answer that for you.

Usually, people opt for fertility evaluations after trying to conceive for a certain period. This period doesn’t go the easy way. The ‘trying to be a parent’ couple has to listen to a lot of advice to achieve a successful pregnancy. While your good friend must have suggested you her ‘fertility-boosting soup recipe’ or a promising sex position to try in bed, nothing beats the real data from fertility results.

To ensure your best chance at getting pregnant, despite when you start trying for it, getting your fertility tested can be a good practice.

According to Dr Shilpa Ellur, Consultant – Reproductive Medicine, Milann Fertility Hospital, Whitefield, Bengaluru, “Couples usually don’t think about their fertility and related issues until they start planning a family. My advice to all women in their late 20s and 30s is to get regular fertility check ups sooner rather than later. This ensures that any associated complications can be treated on time. Being proactive about fertility screenings can help you learn a lot about reproductive health, including potential barriers to future conceptions. It will act as a guide to provide insight into the ticking biological clock.”.

Here are some of the tests that a fertility expert may ask you to get:

1. A transvaginal ultrasound

To assess the health of your uterus and ovaries, an ultrasound will let the doctor evaluate the health of your lady bits.

2. Hormonal testing

Blood tests are done by experts in order to curb the chances of a hormonal imbalance. Levels of Progesterone, Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) can indicate your healthy ovulation process.

3. Physical examination

A doctor may examine you physically for the presence of any bacterial growth that could hamper your chances of conceiving.

4. Hysterosalpingogram or HSG

This test may reveal the health of your fallopian tube. From discovering any issues like blockages in fallopian tubes to finding issues that could prevent an embryo’s implantation in the uterus, this test can tell it all.

The last words

To begin with infertility, it’s not only a woman’s problem; neither is it linked to age. There’s no one reason for infertility, but menstrual issues could be the primary reason for this condition in women. Hormonal fluctuations are also pretty common among women, which could also be another cause. Several other issues like endometriosis or fibroids could also hinder the process.

PERSONALISE NOW

Apart from that, being overweight or underweight, and indulging in excessive smoking or drinking can also cause fertility issues.

Just like everything else, infertility issues can be tackled in the right manner. While people believe that infertility is only linked with age, there’s so much more that comes into the picture. Hope this helps!
