Convincing parents to take time out for their health is like climbing Everest. But bud, you have to do it for the sake of their health. The best way to do so is to join them in their workouts so that they are motivated.

But before you start, you need to understand that your body and their body are very different. Their bones are fragile, they might not have as much stamina as you do. Moreover, they may also have health issues which might make certain exercises no-go for them. So, making them follow the same routine as you is not a good idea.

Then what exercises should they opt for? Well, here are five simple exercises that you can enjoy along with your parents without getting them hurt or injured:  

1. Brisk walking

What can be simpler than this? Brisk walking is low in impact and won’t lead to much wear and tear. Plus, it keeps the joints well greased so that stiffness has no role to play in your parent’s life.

And if studies are to be believed then brisk walking is also great for the heart.

2. Yoga

Low-impact exercises are the key when it comes to our parents as they are prone to injuries. And yoga is the best way to go about it. You can find various tutorials for beginners that are available online and can practice the poses along with your parents. Yoga will not help them physically, but will also help them relax and attain some mental bliss.

3. Laughter therapy

Ageing leads to so many health problems for our parents. Due to which they get overwhelmed and start stressing out. In such a situation, laughter therapy can be a great boost for them. Yes, it’s the same exercise where you laugh your lungs out. Frankly, it’s not just great for them but it will also help you level out your stress levels too. Plus, it’s great for the lungs as well.

4. Stretching

Muscle stiffness, soreness, and pain is a common problem in elderly. All because of a lack of physical activity. This is why you should involve them in simple stretches which they can do without any hassle. You can do stretches like shoulder rotation, neck rolls, forearm rolls, wrist rolls, lunge stretch, calves raises, palm stretches, side bending, forward and backward bending.

5. Cycling

If your parents know how to ride a bicycle then why not take them for a ride? Cycling is a very low-impact exercise and will help in rehabilitating your parents lower body. Just don’t let them overdo it. For the first week they can do 15 to 30 minutes of cycling, and can increase intensity slowly.
