Allergies: Food allergies are very common and can trigger due to anything, including onions. These allergies usually occur when your immune system reacts to the proteins in certainfoods. As per a study published in African Health Sciences, onions, garlic, asparagus, and leeks belong to the Liliaceae family which can cause allergenic cross-reactivity. Heartburn: The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases defines heartburn as a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Irritable bowel syndrome: IBS is a common gastrointestinal problem that causes serious and painful abdominal symptoms.
