Hopefully, y’all are already aware of the serious health consequences of air pollution that has taken over North India, especially Delhi-NCR.

Everyone’s been talking about it. But, for the uninitiated, inhaling toxic air is linked with a higher rate of hospitalisations and deaths due to lung diseases. I’m not saying it, researchers at King’s College London are!

However, I don’t think you need research to acknowledge the immediate effect of breathing in the toxicity—congestion of mucus in the nasal passage and your chest. Just look around and you will see every second person with a runny nose.

Enter: Mom to the rescue even in this situation!

I just told my mom about being coughed at, because I’ve been having cough battles with my sister, who happens to share a bed with me. But we both also happen to share a mother, who decided to feed us both a teaspoon of ginger juice mixed with honey twice a day.

When even antibiotics bent the knee in front of my sister’s stubborn congestion due to pollution, my mother’s home remedy worked. And finally, peace ensued.

Enter: The science behind my mom’s rescue operation

The anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of ginger that help fight infections are to thank for this miracle, as per a 2013 study published in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine.

On the other hand, honey can reduce mucus secretion, provide relief from all the coughing, and help you sleep better in times of congestion.

So, obviously, when you combine these two powerful ingredients, you’re bound to witness some magic. You can try it yourself if you still don’t believe me or mom. But just remember, the results will be slow, but they will eventually show. Be patient, okay?
