Due to a busy lifestyle and the prevalence of fast food trends, we often tend to neglect our health, which has visible effects on our overall well-being. One of the main repercussions can be felt in the form of digestive issues, leading to weight gain and constipation. According to Ayurveda, having bowel movements less than three times a week indicates a serious problem of constipation. Therefore, we present five home remedies that can provide instant relief from constipation.
If your digestive system is not functioning properly, you may be at risk of various serious problems, which can hinder your daily activities. Symptoms of constipation include loss of appetite, restlessness, weakness or tiredness, abdominal pain, and vomiting, all of which can greatly impact your day.
Research suggests that the main causes of constipation are inadequate water intake and a lack of fiber in the diet. Additionally, a sedentary lifestyle and gastrointestinal issues can contribute to constipation. According to research conducted by Cleveland Clinic, constipation is common among pregnant women and women post-childbirth. Hormonal changes and the baby’s impact on the stool’s passage can be reasons for this.
Consuming ghee (clarified butter) with warm milk or hot water is an ancient and highly effective remedy. This combination stimulates bowel movements within 15 minutes. Simply mix one spoon of ghee with lukewarm or hot milk and drink it. Ghee adds moisture to the stool, softening it, while warm milk aids in faster cleansing of the stomach.
Cumin and ajwain have long been considered beneficial for stomach problems. They provide quick relief from issues such as acidity, vomiting, abdominal pain, and cramps, in addition to facilitating bowel movements. To prepare this remedy, roast and grind two spoons of cumin and two spoons of ajwain. Add half a teaspoon of black salt to the mixture and consume a small quantity with warm water. Both cumin and ajwain are effective for stomach-related problems, and black salt aids in digestion.
