Covid-19 is back – and how! While the cases are on its all-time high, Bollywood and TV celebrities are not untouched by the virus or its new variant, Omicron. As this super-spreader new variant spreads its wings rampantly, celebrities are breaking the news of themselves or their loved ones testing positive with Covid-19. What’s heartbreaking is that along with celebrities, their kids have contracted Covid-19 too.

Singer Jankee Parekh and TV star Nakuul Mehta’s 11-month-old son contracted Covid-19 recently, sparking concern among parents of newborn children or infants.

Telling the tale of how their baby boy, Sufi braved the Covid-19 infection, Jankee captioned revealed on Instagram, “Sufi started developing fever a day after I tested positive and it refused to come down in spite of water sponges and medication. We rushed him in the middle of the night to the hospital when his fever crossed 104.2 and what followed were very hard days in the Covid ICU with my baby boy. My fighter went through it all.”

After the ordeal, the couple had a live conversation with Dr Vinit Samdani, a paediatrician, on their Instagram handle, to keep other parents abreast on the dangers posed by the new Covid-19 wave for kids.

Actor Kishwer Merchantt, who welcomed her son Nirvair in August last year, was heartbroken when the little one tested Covid-19 positive recently. The first person to contract it was his nanny, who passed it onto others, inlcuding the house help and a guest, in the house, apart from Nirvair.  Her son was in pain and cranky, but the couple joined forces to ensure it was a smooth sailing.

TV actors Mohit Malik and Aditte Malik’s 9-month-old son Ekbir also tested positive for Covid-19. Aditte wrote a long post on Instagram, detailing a ‘motherhood diary’ on a newborn testing positive for Covid-19.

“My little Ekbir who has never had a fever till date, woke up one morning slightly warm. We checked his temperature and it was 102 degrees. The first thought that came to our mind was to test everyone and unfortunately Ekbir and one of my househelps tested positive. Initially, I was shocked. I was wondering how did this happen, but then Mohit and I decided that we had to look at it positively. Ekbir would fight it out and so would all of us as a family with increased immunity,” she wrote.

As parents, the duo ensured maintaining a playful atmosphere in the house even though they were all isolated in separate rooms. The learning?

“For me, the learning was that yes Covid is dangerous and yes I was nervous but when it came down to it, we all fighters, including our children. Stay safe, take all the precautions but if you still end up letting Covid-19 enter your home, remember not to give up! Fight it out and win the battle,” she wrote.

The rising cases of the new variant of Covid-19, brings us to the fact that your children are still at very high risk. With the third wave hitting us large and with schools reopening, there isn’t much that your kids can do to protect themselves beyond following Covid-19 guidelines.

Dr Amit Gupta, Senior Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, Motherhood Hospital, Noida, says there are some ways to cut the risk of children contracting Covid-19.

“They must increase their vitamin intake and have a balanced diet. As parents, you must let them breathe some air because they have been confined to their homes for too long now. Ensure that they are drinking liquids, especially water. And you also need to establish a good sleeping schedule for them. Apart from that, maintaining good hygiene is non-negotiable,” says Dr Gupta.
