Brahmi is an Ayurvedic herb that has been recommended by traditional medical practitioners for ages for a variety of purposes. It has been known to improve memory, reduce anxiety and even treat epilepsy. Apart from that, it is also known to boost brain health. Brahmi contains a class of very effective compounds called bacosides that are known to be responsible for such benefits. It boasts a variety of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, so it helps in reducing cellular damage. This also aids in improving the mental and emotional health of a person.

1. It has an impact on dendrites

The expert shares, “Brahmi has a particular impact on dendrites which are a part of the nerve cells. So, the length and the branching of the dendrites improves with Brahmi.” It brings changes to the cells of the body that further improve the overall mental well-being of a person.

2. Brahmi has anti-inflammatory benefits

“Brahmi is very good for people who suffer from age-related disorders,” tells the expert. Inflammation is the natural response of the body to fight and heal disease. However, chronic inflammation is known to cause diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart, and kidney diseases.

In certain test-tube and animal studies, Brahmi has shown potent anti-inflammatory properties and has suppressed pro-inflammatory enzymes and cytokines.

3. Helps children with ADHD symptoms

Brahmi is very useful for children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms like lack of coordination and concentration, mood swings, and irritability. Consuming Brahmi for a longer period helped bring a considerable reduction in symptoms of ADHD. However, it is always best to speak to an Ayurvedic doctor or expert on the advisable dosage. Taking it without expert recommendation can trigger other symptoms like nausea, stomach, and gut-related issues because of the wrong diagnosis and prescription.

4. Improves memory power, immunity, and strength

Brahmi also may help deal with anxiety and stress. It aids in increasing the body’s resistance to stress. It enhances your mood by reducing anxiety in the body, thereby reducing levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, in the body. And, reduction of cortisol will enhance the immunity of the body.

As per Dimple Jangda, Brahmi can be paired with Ashwagandha if you are low on strength. If you are dealing with gynecological disorders, it can be paired with Shatavari. However, she reckons to consult a doctor first before thinking to take the herb.
