If we flip the number eight on its side, we have the sign of infinity. We have infinite possibilities to be happy, to love, to stay healthy, and to be successful. But of course, there is a flip side. As we all know, there are infinite possibilities to go down the drain and forget about health and well-being altogether. Let’s for a moment focus on the first option of possibilities and acknowledge that we have a choice! And even more so, we are the master of our choices. So let’s choose wisely, and practice wellness habits.

Years ago, I read Brandon Burchard’s book: “High-performance Habits”.
What I found fascinating, is the possibility to be highly productive, highly successful, and healthy on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. What everyone in his book had in common, were deliberately orchestrated, healthy habits.

We become what we repeatedly do and hence there is a high chance, we do become our habits. So let’s “habit” wisely.

There is a myth we chew on; that being successful means to compromise on loved ones, to be exhausted and stressed all the time and that there is no time to be healthy happy ever after. But what if it is the other way round? What if we are much more productive and successful if we are physically fit, mentally in a good place, if we can express our emotions and feel heard and loved? Sounds too good to be true?

Let’s give it a try.

Wellness habits you must follow

1. Make your well-being a necessity:

There is a difference between wishful thinking and making something a necessity. Wishful thinking might get you a juicer machine for your birthday. But it is necessity which makes you commit, to getting up every morning and going for a run. Make your mental peace a necessity and find out what brings you peace.

2. Start running:

Running has a high therapeutic value. It helps to let go of a lot of suppressed thoughts and emotions. Besides that, it trains the mind to stay focused in a very profound way. Running can help with a great amount of mental clarity.

3. Learn pranayama or breath work :

It’s a tool that will never fail you, in fact it transforms you and helps you to discover places within your mind, which you did not know existed. The breath is always with you and you can use it in the midst of literally anything. Observe your breath with all the love you feel.

4. Take 10 minutes everyday to do nothing:

No Netflix, no phone and no book; just you with your self. Meet and get to know that person. If we can love ourselves when no one is watching, we are a step closer to inner peace.

5. Take one day a week and spend time with people you love:

People who really love us and can heal us. They see us with different eyes and meet us with an open heart. Love tells us that we are safe. We can let down our guard and that’s when we can regenerate and heal.

6. Commit to a mindfulness-based activity:

Yoga, Gi-going, MBSR or whatever else you feel a connection with. Mindfulness is the key not only to a strong mind but to a kind mind. There are so many strong-minded people in the world, I guess we all could need a bit of extra kindness. The side effect of kindness is calmness and that’s a saviour in everyone’s life.

7. Ignite your senses:

Get inspired and expose yourselves to new things. Have the guts to step out of your comfort zone and experience life with all your senses. Get high on being alive. Appreciate the exhilarating beauty, diversity and aliveness all around you. Enjoy life!

8. Start to meditate:

Meditation might be hard in the beginning, but you owe it to yourselves. Sitting with yourselves in silence and tuning inwards, is the most loving act you can offer yourselves. Do you really want to meet, discover and be that amazingly beautiful person you are? If so, then take a step towards yourself and start meditation today.
