‘Tis the season of love–and it doesn’t matter whether you’re committed or not. Because Valentine’s Day is not just about loving thy partner–it is also about loving yourself.
Before you give us the stink eye, let us admit upfront that we know this sounds preachy. But here’s the thing: while you must have dove into the depths of the internet trying to find the perfect gift for your partner, how about taking a plunge for yourself? How about taking some time out for self-love as well?

If you don’t want to take our word for it, maybe it’s time you listen to your favourite telly stars who on Valentine’s Day are spilling the beans on self-love. You’re welcome!
1. Mohit Malik
“I think the most important thing in life is self-love. Most of us at times don’t understand the importance of self-love. Sometimes people relate self-love to ego, but it’s important to understand that ego is temporary. The way I see it, self love is taking out time for my higher self and trying to feel better from within. I do yoga, meditation and seva–because it makes me happier.”
2. Arjun Bijlani
“If you don’t love yourself how you will be loving towards others and even life? One must focus on one’s own needs and wants, and being happy has to be the way of life. Life is all about loving your family, but before that comes self-love.”
3. Vivian Dsena
“If you don’t love yourself, it will make you unhappy sooner or later. If you love yourself it will radiate and reach others too. Self-love leads to inner happiness too. It is important to think and feel good about yourself, and that in a way is self-love.”
4. Shubhangi Atre
“Self-love isn’t about being selfish. It’s about being content with yourself and taking care of your mind, body, and soul. Those who don’t love themselves face a lot of anxiety and depression. We make time for our spouse, family, and friends–but sacrifice our own dreams and aspirations. But putting yourself higher on the priority list is very important for our own happiness.”
5. Gautam Rode
“Only when you love yourself and keep yourself happy can you spread the love and happiness wholeheartedly to others.”
6. Saumya Tandon
“Self-worth is important, because self-love sometimes can be taken too far and become narcissism–and that can be dangerous. If you have a sense of self-worth, you will make people around you happy. And when you don’t have that, you become complex, have grudges, indulge in self pity. Lack of self worth also is when we make wrong decisions and compromise. It ends in unhappiness for a lot of people–including yourself.”
