Being at work, and keeping up with the expectations can become extremely daunting. Having a dictator boss, work pressure and peer pressure have become some of the most common everyday challenges at work. This has led to a concept called quiet quitting. This term got popular and people started associating with it more. The reason is emotional and intellectual disengagement of employees from the work and workplace. The motivation is just the that hefty paycheck at the end of the month. So, employees end up just doing the bare minimum, without going above and beyond. Amidst this chaos of becoming quitters in silence, another concept surfaced – quiet thriving. This is contrary to becoming quitters and urges everyone to grow and evolve in silence.
HealthShots got in touch with clinical psychologist Dr Kamna Chhibber, a clinical psychologist, to understand what is quiet thriving, and how one can make the most out of this mindset.
The expert says, “Quiet thriving involves finding ways or steps and measures to engage with your work. Work can be exhausting and cause fatigue mentally and emotionally as well. It can sometimes feel that you are not enjoying it as much or that the pressures take away from the joys of doing what your job entails. Finding mechanisms that allow you to be able to reconnect and re-engage with your job, the roles, and the system overall is what quiet thriving is all about.”
To find the ability to come back into your work and re-engage with it or practice quiet thriving thrive quietly, following are some things you can consider!
The expert suggests it may be best to take short breaks during tasks. This will allow you to relax in between things that may be taking a toll on your mind. It is very essential to take your moments to disconnect from things when they stop resonating with you. To come back stronger and better, give yourself that alone time to de-clutter mentally and see things from a calmer and more positive mindset.
Build relations and equations at the workplace. Your maximum time is spent at work, so having people with whom you can have a relaxed, casual exchange is important and helpful. Things cannot always be mechanical.
The expert says, “Consider how you would like to shape and structure your role. Have conversations with your managers about the same so you can start shaping your actions in the same direction which makes work more fulfilling.”
Assess if there are activities that the organization engages in that you might find more fulfilling. Try to step into these aspects and explore the best ways in which you can contribute. This will help you thrive professionally.
“Think of ways in which you can bring a sense of positivity to the workplace. Focus on the things that you do like and which give a sense of joy and purpose to what you do, “says the expert.
Consider taking time out to also engage on the outside with activities that you always wanted to explore. This allows you to see your work as a medium through which you are being able to accomplish those dreams you have had all along.
