Top tips to turn your dull day into a brighter one

1. Slow down

When you multi-task, you tend to lose focus and also get irked by small things. In such cases, you can consciously slow down and it will lead to a greater appreciation for life and a higher level of happiness too.

2. Listen to music as much as you can

Listening to music tends to release happy hormones like dopamine and serotonin into the brain. So, listen to your favourite beats and tunes to relax, and you will see that your mood will naturally improve. It will also get you in the zone that you accomplish more.

3. Surround yourself with aromas you associate with

It is believed that your sense of smell triggers memory. So you can trigger your olfactory senses to relive happy memories with clear images and feelings of happiness. Try to be around aromas, be outside or in your room, that make you feel good and happy.

4. Read

Reading, for people who like it, can put their brains into a pleasurable trance-like state. It offers the same benefits of deep relaxation and inner calm. Regular readers tend to have lower stress levels and are more likely to be happier than non-readers.

5. Eat one meal at peace

The nutrients in your food can also produce the body’s feel-good chemicals, serotonin and dopamine. Both of them can help regulate your mood and promote calmness. So have your favourite food at one meal of the day and have it peacefully. Trust us, your dull day would just vanish.

6. Play with a child or pup

Playing or snuggling with a child or a puppy releases oxytocin in the body apart from amping up your levels of happy hormones. It also lowers down cortisol, which is associated with stress and anxiety. So next time you are feeling low, just go out and play with a child or a pet to keep the blues at bay.
