Sipping a glass of warm water, meditation, going for a run, or grabbing your cell phone to check your mails – having a morning ritual is considered to be the most powerful way to begin your day.

We all have our own ways to kick start our day. And if you do have a morning ritual then we have a question for you. Have you ever felt any difference in the day when you perform your morning ritual versus the days when you haven’t?

Maybe or maybe not but you’ll be surprised to know that in an experiment conducted by Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business they have found that our morning rituals impact our mood which directly affects our productivity.

Must be thinking that how is it possible to follow a morning ritual when you are always up like an owl? Don’t worry, as this is what we are here for.

But before we program you to the most powerful habit, we want to share some trivia with you – Do you know, what are the morning rituals of the top CEOs around the world? Nope. Well, we have done our homework and found out that Author Laura Vanderkam in his book What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast which was published in 2013 has revealed this secret and here is the list of the most common morning rituals performed by top CEOs:

  • Waking up early
  • Meditation
  • Exercising
  • Making a to-do list
  • Reading
  • Strategising
  • Writing
  • Checking their emails

So, now you know why we are emphasising on inculcating this mindful ritual.

Now let’s begin how to go about it.

1. Sleep early to wake up fresh and active
If you don’t have the energy to perform a morning ritual then there is no point doing it – hence, quality sleep is a must. Sleep deprivation at night is a major source of cultivating depression, forgetfulness, deteriorate your conscious level, makes you feel drowsy the whole day, and thus makes you less productive.

2. Wash your eyes and face to awake your senses
Before you grab your phone it’s better to clean your eyes so that you won’t strain them with the harmful radiations of your cell phone.

3. Listen to soothing music to rejuvenate your sense
We are very well aware of the fact that music calms our senses down and lifts up our mood.

In fact, a study published in a journal BJPsych International states that music stimulates our brain circuits and boosts both – creativity and productivity.

4. Hydrate yourself
Before you dive into a steaming cup of coffee or tea – drink warm water. We know that you have heard a lot about this but now is the time to imbibe it. These few glasses of water right in the morning have the capacity to flush out maximum toxins from your body — which means a healthy gut and glowing you.

5. Give exercise or meditation a shot
We aren’t suggesting to hit the gym. A little stretching and some basic exercises can also do the trick. And meditation right in the morning will help you plan your day in a better way.

6. Soak in the sun
May it be summer or winter – soaking yourself in the morning sun will never harm you. In fact, you can acquire vitamin D – which most of us must be deficient in. Reason being – we are always in an enclosed space and hardly hit out under the sun. So, make it a point that you soak yourself in a little sunlight at least for 10 to 15 minutes.

7. A little family time is always good for your emotional health
Yes, yes, we know you are always in a hurry but now as you are waking up early you can very well spare some time and help your parents in day to day chores. Spending time doesn’t mean that you need to sit down for a talk.

8. Food for your brain
When every aspect of your life is sorted then why left brain alone – hence, it’s time to indulge in some reading, writing, or any other hobby that gets you going. It’s like a brain recharge for the entire day.

So, there’s your magic trick. Just follow these steps and slowly and steadily feel the difference. And if you do then do let us know whether it helped or not.
