If you don’t know this yet, then let us put it out there for you: physical activity is crucial not just to maintain good physical health, but also your mental health. While we understand being a couch potato is a lot of fun, it comes at the cost of your mental health. And we do not want to put you at risk!

There have been several studies across the globe that have proven the benefits of exercise to relieve stress. But if you don’t like hard-core exercises as much, you can very well opt for other alternatives like running and jogging to keep stress at bay. So, if you are stressing out a little too much lately, give running a shot!

Here’s how running helps to relieve stress

Most people, when they are stressed, feel restless and tense, and that’s why running is a great way to deal with that. Getting on your feet, and running can kick off the feeling of restlessness. Moreover, the changing scenery and outdoor space are again plus points!

Research published in the journal Health Psychology also suggests that running when stressed will help you handle any stressful situation, and other challenges better. Further, it also helps in stimulating your brain, which helps to handle the stress.

Running also releases endorphins

Just like any other form of physical activity, running also releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones. The endorphin rush uplifts your mood, making you feel better and less stressed! Apart from endorphins, running also releases chemicals like serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain — these are happy chemicals crucial for uplifting your mood.

A study published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews also found that engaging in running can help alleviate stress and anxiety. They also found that running was moderately effective, when therapy is unavailable.
