We all go through mood swings and sometimes, we just end up feeling like crappy about ourselves or the lives we lead. During such a phase, one tends to be sad, stressed, or just grumpy and such feelings are as common as feeling joyful or excited. To say the least, they are always changing. However, one must realize that sadness or feeling terrible about your life constantly isn’t always because your life is actually sad or terrible, but it can be due to various physiological and psychological reasons.
Renowned nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary, in her recent Instagram video, revealed 10 surprising reasons why you feel like crap on a particular day.
Sleep is vital for anyone to feel better about everything in life. So if you haven’t slept well the previous night, there are chances of you not recovering from the previous day and carrying the tiredness to the next. More so, getting your Rapid Eye Movement (REM) cycles in sleep is great. During this stage in sleep, your eyes do move in different directions, but don’t send any visual information to your brain. It activates the brain and increases heart rate and breathing.
“If you haven’t pooped properly or worse are constipated, the toxins recirculate back into your system making you feel sluggish,” Chowdhary says in the video. Clearly, having a clear stomach is a trigger to a better day and better mood.
Probably, you have had carbohydrates or too many dips in your blood sugar levels, which is making you cranky and sloppy throughout the day.
If you have built up resentment, anger, frustration that you’ve been carrying with you, there are chances that these negative emotions are draining your energy. Hence, make sure to find ways to address such issues and process your emotions effectively.
If you are over-thinker, there will be days when you haven’t done much but are still feeling really exhausted. It is because when you overthink or are anxious, your brain uses a lot of energy that drains your body out. Read a book or practice your hobby to distract your mind to stop overthinking.

If you are not eating enough vegetables in the day, you are not getting enough micronutrients to help you feel fresh and happy. So eat your greens!
Do you know just 1 percent drop in your hydration levels can make you feel lazy and sleepy throughout the day? So, it’s a no-brainer, just have 2-3 litres of water daily to stay hydrated and happy.
If you are lonely, it is tough to digest and it takes a while to accept your feeling like that. In fact, the time to accept is much longer than to change the feeling. However, it is a major energy drainer and the feeling of isolation can make you feel like life is terrible and it is not related to just physically being alone. Emotional loneliness can also hit you.
If you don’t have deep meaningful connections with people or do not have authentic conversations with yourself or others, it can be harmful to you and your life. “Deep relationships fuel us, give our soul energy and our life some purpose. All of which are essential to feel your best and live better,” says Chowdhary.
If you are feeling too low, you have low grade inflammation because of eating certain foods that are triggering your gut, which in turn is causing you to feel anxious or making you over think. It can even cause autoimmune diseases like Hashimotos, which can go undiagnosed.
So keep all these factors in mind if you are feeling sad in order perceive life in a positive way and make the most of it.
