Many people often get confused between mental health and emotional health, and think they are used interchangeably. Well, that’s not completely true. While mental health is all about your psychological, emotional and social wellness, emotional health is everything to do with your emotions, and how you feel.

Handling your emotional health is critical for good mental health. That’s exactly why we’re here to tell you about seven mood-boosting activities that will help you manage your emotional health much more easily. All set? Let’s find out.

1. Make a gratitude list

Before you sleep every night, make sure you give yourself 10-15 minutes to reflect on the day that has passed by. Write down all the things that you are grateful for. Making a list like this every day will help you become more positive, and shift your focus towards the good in your life. It will help you fight the tough times in a better way!

2. Organise and declutter

Have you ever felt irritated and frustrated, when things around you are scattered and messy? If yes, then you are not alone. Seeing everything out of place can have a negative impact on your emotional health.

Organising and decluttering your spaces can help you manage your stress, time, and priorities better. So, whenever you feel low or not so great, try organising a little better. it will help you calm your mind, and make you feel more centred.

3. Start writing journals

If you’re someone who finds it difficult to process and feel your emotions, then journaling can prove to be helpful for you. Start taking baby steps by just noting down what happened throughout the day, how you felt, and how you handled it. Over a period of time, this journal will help you understand your own emotions, how you dealt with it, and how you can improve in the future.

Journaling the thought will also help you get closer to yourself, and the struggles you are facing. This activity will not only help you understand the problem, but will also provide you with a potential solution.

4. Try spending some time with friends

Humans are social animals, and no matter how much you like spending time with yourself, socialising with your friends every now and then is also important. Try participating in activities together that you both enjoy, or going out to your favourite restaurants.

Spending time with them will take your mind off from the negative things, and will shift it towards something more positive. Moreover, this will also give you a person to fall back on, when you are not in the best emotional state. So, you need to keep your friends closer.

5. Take time off from your phone

Too much social media consumption and phone usage can affect you negatively. Though you might want to stay connected or up to date with everything happening around you, sometimes it can get really overwhelming and that’s when you need to put a stop. Give yourself some time off, and focus your energies on something else like reading a book or listening to your favourite podcast.

6. Try volunteering for a cause

One of the best things that you can do is to use your precious time to volunteer for some cause. Whether it is for an animal shelter, or an orphanage or old age homes, volunteering will give you a sense of belonging, and can boost your emotional health.

Apart from that, it can also give a new perspective towards life and certain situations. Volunteering also shifts your focus from yourself to others, which is pretty good for your emotional health.

7. Practice deep breathing

Deep breathing helps your whole body to calm down, and prepares you to handle difficult situations in a better way. When you practice deep breathing, you will notice that your heartbeat returns to normal, and you feel more relaxed. This will help you feel more in control of your emotions and thoughts.
