Breaking up with someone who you love is never easy, and it can take a toll on your emotional and mental health. No matter the reason behind the break up, it’s important to focus on yourself to take care of your physical and mental health.
However, we all tend to make a few mistakes that can backfire, and result in more emotional damage. So, here are eight dos and don’ts that you should always keep in mind to cope better.
Breaking up only to make up right after is the worst thing that you can do. If you are unsure of the breakup, take proper time, and once you have made a decision stick to it. With this, it becomes less painful for both people to move on. But make sure you are ending the relationship for the right reasons.
While it is completely normal to feel curious about what they are doing in their life, stalking them continuously will keep you hanging, and might make you more uncomfortable. And we are sure it will be a nightmare if you accidentally like their picture, right?
Blaming another person for something like this will only make things worse, so try to avoid it as much as you can. Instead of blaming, you can frame it in a way that it doesn’t sound like you’re pointing at the other person. And even if you want to let them know of their mistake, try to be as factual as you can, instead of starting a blame game.

It is okay to feel a little void and act vulnerable, when a person is no longer in your life. But trying to fill that gap with someone else and that too in haste is not a good idea. You should always refrain from it. Not only will you regret this act later, it will be completely unfair for the other person as well.
While sharing what you feel with your close ones is important, posting it on social media is not. Most people actually don’t care, and they can be really mean sometimes. So, if you feel compelled to share your emotions, do it with people who care about you.
By giving yourself space, we don’t mean to say you need to shut yourself from the world, but giving yourself enough time to take care of yourself. If you feel like giving up on social media for some time, you should go for it. Do what makes you feel better.
Also, you can treat yourself during this time. Go for a relaxing massage, a therapeutic session at a parlour or a day out with your BFFs. or you could simply give yourself a day for self-care!
Finding something creative to do is a wonderful way to heal. So, try picking up a new hobby or something that interests you and makes you happy at the same time. Try exercising or engaging in Zumba, or even adult colouring books. Channelling your energy in the right direction, especially during this time, is important.
It might sound like a cliche, but do not ever hesitate to talk to your friends or family about something that is bothering you. Cry if you want to, but don’t suppress your emotions. Allow your feelings to come out, as it will help you heal and feel better.
