Most of us have grown up on an appetite of rom-coms, and that has really shaped our idea of romance. Boy meets the girl, sweeps her off her feet, they sing and dance, and they have a happily-ever-after. Well, this is the stuff of films, and rarely happens in real life. Because there’s so much more to a relationship than just romance! You are going to have troubles too, and it’s not going to be rosy all the time. If your idea of a relationship is something like this, then remember you are going to have a tough time.
Well ladies, chemistry is important in a relationship but not everything! You can’t prioritise chemistry over honesty, understanding and effective communication. If that happens and you feel chemistry will be all you need to suffice a relationship, then don’t expect to build a meaningful relationship with your partner.
Remember two people are bound to have different values, so you can’t expect your partner to suddenly change for you, and be just like you. Acceptance is one of the key pillars of a relationship, and by this, we do not mean that you don’t need to call out the wrongs that happen, but you can’t expect someone to have exactly the same values as you!
Like we said, movies and social media have completely ruined our idea of a relationship. Every time, you see your friends putting up lovey-dovey posts on Instagram or Facebook, you might want your partner to do the same. And if you expect your relationship to be exactly like a rom-com, then let’s just say it will be difficult to sail through the relationship. Instead, look for the good in your relationship, that’s more important. Your partner might have some qualities that are important for your relationship, and that’s what really matters in the long run.
If you expect your partner to understand what’s going on in your mind without you even saying it, then that’s a huge issue. They are not meant to be mind readers. So, please let your partner know what you feel, and have a healthy discussion around it. Communication is one of the key pillars in a relationship.
