So many of us find it difficult to maintain a balance between our work and personal life. Jobs, businesses and vocations are really time consuming and stressful. Depending on one’s work profile, people can find themselves dealing with high-risk events, endless paperwork, travelling, strict delivery deadlines, and dissatisfied customers or disgruntled peers.

To make the situation even more difficult, we also have to deal with Covid-19 induced work from home. While work from home has several advantages, ranging from spending quality time with your loved ones to next to nil time spent travelling, the boundary between our personal space and professional life has blurred.

Symptoms of prolonged stress exposure and overworking include muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, reduced focus and lack of sleep. Therefore, it is critical for our health to have a work-life balance.

In order to manage the stress levels, and lead a healthier life, having certain routines will help inculcate a work-life balance:

1. Listening to your favourite tunes

Listening to your favourite music is helpful as it slows the pulse and heart rate, thereby lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the levels of stress hormones. Music can have a beneficial effect on our physiological functions, slowing the pulse and heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the levels of stress hormones. Fix a time on a daily basis, during which you will tune into your favourite songs.

2. Exercise and meditate

Be it in the morning or post-work hours, have a cut off time fixed for workouts and meditation. Exercising can help reduce levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. Meditation is known to help individuals cope with anxiety and improve cognitive and behavioural functions.
