1. Not cleaning them as soon as you get them

Plus, microorganisms could very well be sitting on the surface on your sex toy—so you need to ensure that you clean them as soon as you get it. In fact, you should clean them before every use.

2. Cleaning porous sex toys with water

Not every sex toy needs water to be cleaned. Only the non-porous ones should be cleaned with liquids. That’s because porous ones soak water, which lead to dampness, and ultimately bacterial and fungal growth.

3. Keeping them wet

Just wiping the water off doesn’t ensure dryness. You need to dry them properly using a hair dryer or letting them air dry by keeping them at a sanitized station where no one can touch them. Once your sex toy is completely dry, only then should you store it or use it.

Pre and post cleaning of sex toys is a mandate for a simple reason because the vaginal mucus on the toy can interact with the pathogens that are around. This will make the sex toy a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus.
