Self-pleasure is self-care: Here is why you must not shy away from masturbation

It is easy to believe that self-care is just about putting on those sheet masks. There’s so much more you can do, including indulging in a hot and heavy self-pleasure sesh.

Over the last few years, self-care has become the biggest buzzword. But what does it really encompass? Is it just about going to the spa with your girlfriends, or going pub-hopping every Friday night? Well, these too can qualify under self-care, but there’s so much more that’s not spoken out. Today, we are going to address the proverbial elephant in the room: masturbation or let’s just say self-love.

How about giving yourself a nice rub and relieving stress? Well, it’s a great plan. But for most women, openly saying that they’d love to indulge in self-pleasure is often unheard of. They hide out of the fear of being judged and labeled, even though masturbation just forms a key part of their self-care routine.

Now, you might be a little surprised (or shocked) because there’s a common misconception that women do not masturbate. But guess what? It goes back to 30,000 years and has been mentioned in ancient Greek poetry. There’s no denying that it has had a turbulent history, but it’s certainly a big self-pleasure tool now.

So what makes masturbation great?

For one, it helps you understand the concept of self-acceptance. Because here you are exploring your body, understanding it better, and giving it the love it deserves. With time, you’ll begin to accept it much more, and isn’t that the first step to self-care?

Most women admit to doing it right before they sleep, also because it helps them to unwind after a stressful day at work. It’s also a great way to get some me-time, which is so difficult, especially when there’s too much to juggle. At the end of the day, sexual wellness is as important as physical and mental wellness. Isn’t it, ladies?

For a very long time (or probably even now), women and sex have been viewed through the same lens: reproductive. It is believed that those who have vaginas are meant for reproduction, when the truth is there’s so much more that a woman needs. It’s also about her need to experience pleasure, and what’s better than masturbation

And it has some other benefits too…

You might think masturbation is just great to relieve stress, but there are so many other ways in which it can help you, outside the bedroom. It is believed that solo sex can really help steam things up with your partner during an intercourse. That’s because masturbation helps to understand your body better, and that helps when you want to communicate anything about sex with your partner.

Also, as we mentioned earlier, masturbation also helps you sleep better. When you orgasm, your body releases prolactin and serotonin, both that relax you and make you feel happy. Try and create a soothing environment in your bedroom, before you start masturbating. It will make you feel great after the sesh!

Not many that masturbating regularly can also help with period cramps. Sure, it can get a little messy, but then if it’s going to reduce pain, then who isn’t game ladies? Make sure to try it out, because it’s likely that it can turn you off.

And last but not the least, masturbating regularly can make you feel confident, because you are so much in tune with your body. It makes you feel empowered and in charge of yourself, and that sure is a great feeling!
