When it comes to sex, there are a million questions floating in our minds. So, it’s but natural that lubes feature too! Unfortunately, we don’t use them as much as we should. But here’s a burning question: should you lube or not, if you are wet? Before we get to that, it’s important to understand the function of a lube. Vaginal dryness is common among women, and with the help of this liquid, it is easier to have pleasurable sex (without much pain).
There’s so much stigma around using lubes, because it is believed that there’s something wrong with a woman! Moreover, it is believed that women during arousal get wet all the time, but that’s not true. That’s exactly why lubes have a function.
It’s time to now understand if using a lubricant is important or not, when you’re already wet? Dr Niveditha Manokaran, also known as dr_nive_untaboos advises women to use it. Here’s what her Instagram post reads,” Being wet in the beginning, or throughout a sexual encounter does not mean that one shouldn’t use a lubricant. Lubricants don’t dry out like the vaginal fluid and makes the act more smooth, more slimy and more pleasurable. In fact if the sexual act lasts long, it’s great for foreplay and more.”

Now that we have the answer to this, let’s take a look at how lubricants serve our purpose during sex. Yes, they do have benefits. Ready to find out?
“Lubricants prevent the dryness, the redness and prevent the skin from being irritated and breaking easily. It prevents cuts and makes penetration even more smoother. It works great if you are using a condom, making it smoother for penetration and prevents condom breakage.
When you are going rough, long and good, lubes are another good companion to keep,” adds Dr Manokaran.
This is true, because lubes serve a dual purpose — not only do they enhance sexual pleasure, but also provide safety. By reducing the friction between the skin and another surface, the lube minimises the risk of skin tears. Now you might think this is a minor issue, but that’s not true — even the slightest sore or tear in your genital area can hurt like crazy! After all, the area is very sensitive.
Moreover, as mentioned above, using lube also reduces the risk of condom breakage. At the end of the day, that also means you are protected from sexually transmitted infections or STIs.
What’s more, lubes can make sex enjoyable, so use it without a care and have some fun between the sheets! You don’t really have to worry about any pain or discomfort, and can experience pleasure in the true sense.
